Well I might not like all the hot humid weather and thunderstorms this past week, but the garden LOVES it 😉 My tomato plants went from teeny barely out of the ground sprouts to big seedlings in no time! The zucchini tripled in size and has a bloom! And the lettuce and carrots are going crazy!! I’ve already cut that lettuce, filling two big bowls for the chickens this morning! They were so excited for fresh food 🥰 I have a whole bunch of pumpkin and squash volunteers in several places across the sanctuary as always but even more from all the squash Lucas ate this winter 💜 I’m so excited to have all this fresh produce coming for the animals this summer!
What I would love to do someday is build our gardens bigger to able to donate or give away food on top of providing fresh food for our residents. I just am not able to do it myself and we are woefully short on volunteer help. If anyone with a green thumb would like to help us build a community garden alongside our resident garden, please reach out and let’s form a plan!
It’s a tiny bit cooler today and I have a big Friday night of catching up all the cleanup after our storms the last two nights. 😏 Hope everyone has a great Friday 😊

Please send all the positive vibes and love to our little Cecilia 💞💞 last Friday I noticed she seemed a little quiet and then by Sunday morning it was apparent she had conjunctivitis in both eyes. Not goopy, but swollen and she was keeping them closed almost all the time. She had also quit eating. Chickens can get conjunctivitis from bacteria or several different viruses so we started with antibiotics right away but to no avail. So yesterday I started her also on eye ointment and then because the antibiotic hadn’t helped, we started her on an anti inflammatory injection. This morning she had both eyes open more, was far more feisty about meds, and I saw her eating! 🥳 While not out of the woods yet, I was relieved to see her move a step in the right direction!
Cecilia is a crossbeak, meaning her beak has some deformity to it, so she can struggle with eating anyway. But then to not feel good and not want to open her eyes to see the food, we were in a precarious position for her. Seeing her start to peck at the food this morning was a big relief. I will be feeding her all the goodies now to help her recover. 💓
This what sanctuary looks like. For so many farmed animals, but especially chickens packed in sheds by the thousands, individual care just doesn’t happen. They get hurt or sick and die with no care, no escape from the pain and suffering. It can also be true in backyard flocks who often receive no vet care at all. Sanctuary means every one matters, whether it’s one of our goats, horses, or birds. Preventative care and emergent care, they all get it.
We depend on our community of supporters to be able to this work for them. If you are able to spare just a few dollars a month, please consider joining our Patreon monthly heroes. For as little as $2/month, you can help us know we can always do what is needed. And if you would like to sponsor little Cecilia, it’s only $15/month and that helps pay for all her fees and bedding costs each month. Sponsors get extra pics and videos monthly as well as being the first to receive any updates! Just go to our website www.thefarmmicrosanctuary.org for more info!

It might’ve been hot last night but that didn’t stop the girls from playing hard. 😊
Even though we’ve had some very sad days here recently, seeing these kids play and enjoy life is pure joy. ♥️ This is what your support gives them. A life free from fear and free to kick up and play when they feel good. 🥰

We were loving the breeze and cooler air this morning before it got hot. Our weather this week is going to be hot and humid so all the fans are going, shade is readily available as well as many fresh water buckets!
Happy Monday! ☺️

I lost Sheldon yesterday 💔 His lymphoma finally got to be too much for his body to handle.
Sheldon was my cat and I was his person. He rarely trusted other people and a lot people might never have known he was here for he stayed in the shadows when visitors came. Our struggle with his health was a decade of management, diet restrictions, and figuring out what stressors added to it. The last couple of years he did really well, ate his normal diet, and even started letting people pet him. But ever since Cheeto died last year, he’s been in a slow decline. Malabsorption and diarrhea took its toll. He lost control of going. He lost a lot of weight. And nothing we did helped slow it down. So he is free of the failing body now. He and Bowser came here just as I was moving into this house and the thought of it without him is almost too much to bear. My OG three is now only two. 😢
This year continues to be one long heartbreak. All of our elderly and special needs animals seem to be slipping away all at once and it is so heavy. I knew both he and Nell were getting closer to leaving us, but I didn’t expect them to be within days of each other. I’m hopeful for a break from the sadness…
If you need me today I will be power cleaning the barns to process this week’s grief load. 💔

Friday was an insanely busy day here at the sanctuary. Our hay guy finished filling the south side of the barn to the brim! 170 bales added to what was there means we have over two hundred bales socked away for winter. He’s bring another load to put in the tack room that we will feed out through summer and fall so we will be fully loaded and ready! So far, our bill is $1105 for the hay. Yesterday I was able to pay $700 on that bill but it’s going to grow when he delivers the rest.
As he was finishing unloading, Matt and Sam arrived to do hoof trims. We got the horses done, Susie and Mo inside, and Maggie, Abigail, Fern, and Arlo outside. As predicted, after catching Clem for his vaccine a few days ago, he wasn’t letting me touch him so it was a no go for him. I have warned everyone many many times about Maggie and Abigail being head butters, but while we were focused on trying to catch the next goat, Sam was a victim of Abigail in stealth mode. Luckily he wasn’t injured but it reminded all of us you have to be vigilant about her. She never does it to me (Maggie will if she is upset about something), but both girls take it very personally when other people enter their space. It is why we don’t allow visitors (or volunteers anymore) inside the goat yard! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I suspect trauma from their awful first “home” is the reason why they do it so I am never angry. Our bill yesterday for trims was $300, so it was an expensive day!
We have raised $145 so far towards those bills and I am so grateful to those who have helped. These expenses are vital to our mission and we could still use some help towards them. I know money is tight for everyone right now, so if you are unable to donate, please like, comment, and share to help get us seen. Thank you for helping us give the best possible care ♥️

When life seems hectic or overwhelming, I love to go stand under our huge maple tree in the backyard and just look up into its branches. What a magical gift that provides a home for so many birds and squirrels as well as a huge shade canopy for the goats all summer long, and a great snack in the fall when the leaves drop 😉
I have posted a couple times recently about funds needed for vet bills and hay, with only a tiny bit donated. I know these are boring things compared to exciting rescues or medical emergencies, but they are the vital parts of giving the care that makes sanctuary life what it is. Please consider a donation today or consider becoming a monthly hero to help us better able to budget these larger expenses. Thank you for supporting our mission here. It takes a village ♥️♥️

Last night we said goodbye with love to our sweet Nell. Nell had come to us over two years ago when my grandfather had to go into nursing care and Nell needed a soft place to land. After discovering old pictures, we realized she was at least twenty years old! She was stone deaf and mostly slept a lot in her time here, but was a mighty spry little lady who could jump higher than the younger cats here 😉 We lost my grandpa over a year ago, and she was my last bit of connection to him so I was sad to have to say goodbye. At her age, her health issues had started stacking up on each other, compounding issues and making them harder to handle. Her passing was so peaceful and easy, we knew her body had been tired and ready. I will miss her sweet face peeking out of her room at me every morning. I buried her under our biggest walnut tree last night because she had always loved to be outside and my grandpa had always loved gathering walnuts. ♥️
Her expenses were included in our total vet bill from the last two days of vaccines, medication refills, and letting her go. Our total bill was $606 and we could really use your help covering that amount. Our farrier comes Friday to trim all the goats and horses, and our hay guy dropped the first load of hay yesterday so we have a lot hitting all at once. Can you help us make sure we get everyone taken care of? As always, if you donate over $25, I will send you a thank you gift of appreciation.
