We have an OESC meeting on Monday June 1st at Evergreen in the Rowland rooms, 6:30 (the usual time and place).

The theme for Monday's meeting, as suggested by one of your younger members, is "Heavy Metal". You can interpret that any way you want, but I was thinking that we should all bring in some examples of Heavy Metals from our collections to show off and maybe talk about. I've got a few ideas, and I might even give a quick overview of metals and their importance in minerals and lapidary.

See you on Monday!

A little Blast from the Past! This was a fun meeting - Mike Riesch gave a presentation on his diggings in Colorado. It was probably Ann's idea to wear the "agate eyes"! Sadly, several of these members are no longer with us.

We did something a little different at our May meeting. Members were encouraged to bring specimens to buy, trade, sell, barter etc… It was kind of fun! Definitely have to do it again.

May OESC Meeting tonight. Our "theme" is a "Buy, Sell, Trade" meeting where members can bring in some of their extra goodies to buy, sell, and trade with other members. After we finish up with regular business and door prizes, we'll open up the meeting to "wheeling and dealing"!

A few thoughts on the process:
1) This isn't a major show, so don't bring 50 flats of stuff. Pick and choose your offerings, and maybe keep it to 3-4 flats max. Not a hard and fast rule, just a guideline.
2) Expect to buy and sell using cash. Up to you if you'll accept personal checks or other types of electronic payments, but cash is king.
3) Don't forget about trading/bartering. Maybe you can work a trade if you bring your own offerings, and then no cash needed!
4) It's probably best to have a price on a given specimen, but "Make me an Offer" is legit too.

See you tonight!

The Oshkosh Earth Science Club took our Monday meeting on the road to UW-Oshkosh. Retired professor Dr. Hyatt invited our club to the geology department for a demonstration on making thin rock section slides to analyze under microscopes. It was a fun and educational evening.

Just a reminder that Monday’s OESC meeting will be at Harrington Hall on the UW-O campus. We will meet in room 217 at 6:30. Plan a bit of extra time to find a parking spot! Should be an educational experience!
