Claude Fischer has been Professor of Sociology at Cal since 1972. He earned his Ph.D. and MA in Sociology at Harvard University. He earned his BA at UCLA. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Cal in urban sociology, research methods, and American society. Fischer's early research focused on the social psychology of urban life and on social networks. In 1982, he published To Dwell Among Friends: Personal Networks in Town and City and in 1984 he published The Urban Experience. He is credited with developing the 'subcultural theory of urbanism'. He worked on the study of social networks, in which he developed techniques for the survey study of networks and studied urban-rural differences in personal networks.
Daryl Ansel, Cal ‘83, came back to Cal in July, 2016, to serve as the Associate Dean of Students and Executive Director of the ASUC MLK Student Union. He earned a Masters from Cornell University.
As the Executive Director of the MLK, Jr. Student Union, he serves as a liaison between students, the ASUC Student Union Board of Directors and Dean of Students, Joseph Greenwell.
He is also responsible for the implementation of the recommendations made by the ASUC Student Union Board of Directors and the daily oversite of the facilities and related programs.
Daryl has a wide ranging understanding of Alum engagement, from both Cal and Cornell. He works daily with students who represent the ASUC Leadership and are staff in the Student Union, and the thousands of students who come to the Student Union as Individuals and as part of the hundreds of student organizations who utilize the Student Union.
Siena Guerrazzi will be graduating this May, receiving a BS degree in Political Science, with a minor in History. She served this year as an intern in the office of State Senator Nancy Skinner (Cal BS and MA). She has worked for three years as the Program Assistant in the Cal Public Service Center. While at Cal, Siena served as the chairperson of several student organizations, including Cal Student Philanthropy. She was an officer of the UC Rally Committee. Most recently Siena was asked to organize and moderate the Chancellor’s very successful Student Town Hall Meeting in Pauley Ballroom.
