Red Flag Warning for Grand Forks County and more!

Presently dry fuels, low humidity and gusty winds will create conditions where fires can escape control more easily and be difficult to contain this afternoon into early evening. Exercise caution if using outdoor equipment, and avoid burning during this time.

While Grand Forks County is not included in the Red Flag Warning, conditions are still ugly.

Fire Danger Rating is at Extreme for today. No burning, and please report any signs of smoke or fire by dialing 9-1-1.

A red flag warning is in effect across southeastern ND and west central MN late this morning into the afternoon. This is due to gusty winds along with relative humidity values as low as 20 percent. Near critical fire weather conditions will occur over much of northwestern MN. Winds will be lighter here, but humidity values will remain low.

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we take a moment to recognize the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of firefighters everywhere.

Whether it’s responding to structure fires, wildland incidents, medical calls, or assisting our neighbors in times of need, firefighters stand ready at all hours—often in challenging and dangerous conditions.

We also honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their service and commitment will never be forgotten.

Thank you to the members of Larimore Fire and to firefighters across our communities for your continued professionalism, resilience, and service.

Stay safe, and take care of one another.

Road Closure Notice

Yesterday evening, Larimore Fire responded to a report of flames and smoke on 33rd St NE between 21st Ave NE and 22nd Ave NE.

Upon arrival, crews found brush, trees, and a bridge crossing fully involved in fire. Due to limited access, firefighters advanced on foot using backpack sprayers, flappers, and other hand tools to contain the blaze.

Fire crews applied over 3000 gallons of water and attacked the bridge from multiple angles. Despite their efforts, the structure was a total loss. Sealants in the bridge planks to protect the planks from moisture, rot, and sun damage likely caused much of the difficulty in extinguishing the fire.

Grand Forks County engineers are currently working on plans to replace the bridge.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and there were no injuries reported on scene.

33RD ST NE BETWEEN 21ST AVE NE AND 22ND AVE NE IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Training Day!

On April 18, firefighters attended another department training drill.

This month’s training focused on Department SOGs, wildland personal protective equipment (PPE), Mayday procedures, and wildland fire operations.

New members were introduced to their lighter, yet still protective, wildland PPE while learning how to pump water from the brush trucks, tankers, and mini-brush unit. They also received hands-on instruction in hose handling, various grass and brush fire suppression techniques, and proper Mayday radio procedures.

Experienced members played a key role in sharing their knowledge with newer firefighters and also had the opportunity to demo new nozzles for the department’s updated tankers.

Training covered the limitations and capabilities of structural gear, the ins and outs of SCBAs (air packs worn on the back when entering hazardous environments), and the proper knots for a variety of fireground applications.
