One of the most damaging forms of abuse isn’t always visible.

Through manipulation, gaslighting, and constant criticism, an abuser can make you question your worth, your judgment, and even your own reality.

“You can’t seem to get anything right.”

“No one else would want you.”

“It’s your fault.”

These are lies. You are worthy of being loved.

Recognizing the manipulation and control is an important step toward reclaiming your confidence and seeing the relationship more clearly.

It’s about making sure survivors have support for their pets throughout the journey, whether they need veterinary care, temporary boarding, transportation, essential supplies, or a connection to someone who can help.

Why We can’t stay silent.

Domestic violence is not someone else’s problem.

It happens in our neighborhoods. In our schools. In families we know. And too often, people see the signs but don’t know what to say, what to do, or when to step in.

Awareness matters because you can’t recognize what you’ve never been taught to see.

You can’t support someone if you don’t understand what abuse can look like.

And you can’t change a community by staying silent.

At IgniteHer, we believe education is part of prevention. We help women recognize abuse, build safety skills, and access resources that can help them move forward.

October is here. 💜

Today marks the first day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).

Behind every statistic is a woman, a child, a family, and a story that deserves to be heard.

Domestic violence is not always visible. It can look like control disguised as love, financial freedom taken away, isolation from family and friends, threats, intimidation, or a woman quietly trying to figure out how to leave safely.

This month, we are raising awareness, challenging misconceptions, and reminding survivors that what happened to them does not define what comes next.

At IgniteHer, our work is rooted in three pillars:

RECOGNIZE. Identify the signs of abuse, emotional manipulation, and coercive control. Because understanding what is happening is the first step toward freedom.

RISE. Build confidence, learn personal safety skills, and access resources that help women understand their options.

REBUILD. Through Bright Bags, the Justice Fund, and Purple Paws, we help survivors and their families move forward with support, dignity, and hope.

Recognize. Rise. Rebuild.

This is the work. This is IgniteHer. 💜

Because awareness should lead to action. And every woman deserves the opportunity to live free from abuse, reclaim her voice, and rebuild her future.

Take a good look 👀. These are the 7 frat brothers accused of gang ra**ng a student for hours.

Let’s stop dancing around this.

What is alleged to have happened at Cornell is horrifying. A former student says she was drugged and sexually assaulted by multiple fraternity members while incapacitated. She says she lost her education because of what happened to her. And now, according to the lawsuit, questions are being raised about whether the people accused faced consequences proportionate to the allegations.

And before anyone tries to make this about “protecting the boys” or “ruining their futures”:

What about hers?!

What about the education she lost?
What about the trauma she has to live with?
What about every woman watching this and wondering whether she would be believed?
What about the message sent when powerful institutions appear more concerned with protecting their reputation than confronting sexual violence?

Due process matters. Investigations matter. The presumption of innocence matters.

But institutional protection cannot become a substitute for accountability.

If the allegations are substantiated, consequences should be serious. Period.

A prestigious university. A fraternity. A family name. A promising future. None of those things should ever become a shield against accountability.

And if you’re a man who sees something like this and stays silent because the accused are your friends, your brothers, your classmates, or your teammates — **that silence is part of the problem.**

Protecting people accused of sexual assault at the expense of the people who say they were harmed is wrong.

Sexual assault is not a misunderstanding. It is not something to minimize, excuse, bury, or brush aside because the person accused is popular, privileged, connected, or part of a prestigious institution.

Protect survivors.
Demand transparency.
Demand accountability.
And stop creating environments where women are expected to carry the consequences of men’s actions.

No institution is prestigious enough to be above accountability.
