Family Center on Deafness (FCD) provides a wide variety of educational and recreational programs for families throughout Pinellas County.

About FCD
Family Center on Deafness (FCD) provides a wide variety of educational and recreational programs for families throughout Pinellas County. Participants come from households that include at least one individual who as significant hearing loss. Programs include tutoring, after school and summer programs, literacy and sign language instruction, information and referral, social opportunities for deaf children and parents.

Happy Spotlight Saturday!

Today, we are proud to shine our spotlight on the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County! Thank you, JWB, for hosting the 2026 Out-of-School Time Conference and bringing together so many passionate professionals dedicated to supporting youth and families in our community.

Our Youth and Family Support Specialist team was grateful for the opportunity to attend and be part of such an amazing event!

This week, we are proud to celebrate Sally and her incredible milestone of 17 years of dedicated service at Family Center on Deafness! 🌟

Sally has been part of FCD through so many chapters of our journey, from the portable at Cross Bayou to our previous building and now at the Lealman Exchange. Throughout the years, her dedication, experience, and commitment have made a lasting impact on our organization and the families we serve.

Thank you, Sally, for 17 amazing years of loyalty, kindness, and service! We appreciate everything you do and the heart you bring to FCD every day. Here's to celebrating you and all the wonderful work you continue to do! 👏💜

🌟 Meet Our Executive Director, John! 🌟

If you haven’t had the chance to meet John already, we’d like to officially welcome him as the Executive Director of Family Center on Deafness!

John began his career as an educator in the K–12 public school system in Central Michigan and earned his Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.

John went on to study Literacy at Michigan State University, focusing his research on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population. During his time at MSU, he met his business partners, and 16 years ago they created Signing Savvy, an online ASL resource. He has also worked at Michigan State University training teachers and continuing his research in the field.

Today, John serves as FCD’s Executive Director and leads our 0–5 programs. Please join us in welcoming him as Executive Director!
