As of February 2, 2026, pit bulls and terrier mixes are LEGAL to foster and adopt in Prince George’s County following the repeal of breed-specific legislation that had been in place since 1997.

A note of gratitude & perspective: We appreciate the Prince George’s County Animal Shelter for their transparency and for guiding us when our community needs to step up most. Overcrowding is a nationwide crisis, not unique to PG County, and even “no kill” shelters are facing these heartbreaking decisions. 🐾 Please help Sky find her new home! 🐾

Sky is three years old, spayed, and weighs about 40lbs. She’s great on the leash, house and crate trained, and great with kids, other dogs, and cats. She is a lap dog by trade and her hobbies include sitting on your lap, sleeping on your lap, and eating snacks, preferably in your lap. She would do best in any home with a lap.

Although she is incredibly loved by her current family, her guardian is unable to take her for potty breaks and walks due to her living and family situation. In the best interest of Sky and her special needs child, her guardian is looking to rehome or find a foster for Sky.

Sky’s adoption profile is linked in our comments, where you can also ask any questions you may have. Her previous foster mom will do her best to answer them! Thank you for any interest or help in sharing Sky - you are appreciated!
