Stay safe and cool.

Some places in Texas are experiencing extreme heat this week. Exposure to extremely hot temperatures can be dangerous for everyone, including people with disabilities and animals. Below are some of the things you can do to stay safe this week.

Drink Water Often: Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine and sugary drinks.

Stay Cool Indoors: Use air conditioning or go to cool places like libraries, malls, or community centers.

Plan Ahead: Check the forecast, plan activities for cooler parts of the day, and know where to find cooling centers.

Backup Power: If the power goes out, make sure you have alternative power sources to charge mobility devices, keep meds refrigerated, etc.

Dress for the Heat: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and a hat when outside.

Pets: Don’t forget to include your service animals and pets when you’re figuring out how to stay cool.

Never Leave Anyone in a Hot Car: Heat builds up fast—it can be deadly.

Know the Warning Signs: Watch for dizziness, headache, nausea, confusion, or hot, dry skin. Seek help right away.

You are more than what you are going through. 💚

You are worthy.

More people are reaching out for support — and 988 is answering. 💚

In 2025, 988 state contact centers saw a 12% increase in calls compared to 2024. Even better: 89% were answered in-state, which connected callers directly to local care when it mattered most.

Growth like this means two things: awareness is spreading, and people are taking that first step to find help.

If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988, or text TALK to 741741. You don't have to be alone. 💙
