September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we are coming together to dance, move, and make a difference for local children and families affected by childhood cancer. Wear yellow, bring your energy, and dance for a good cause.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏽 Even after a long week, there’s always time to connect… and share a few laughs!

As we head into our busiest month of the year, our Fight Like a Kid Coalition checked in with Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. to review our 30, 60, and 90-day action plan alongside our PLEs, Steering Committee, and staff.

Clear communication, transparency, and staying connected matter, especially when things get busy. Grateful for a team and partners committed to doing this work together!

💛 From a childhood cancer mom’s heart.

As Ciro’s birthday on September 13th approaches, his mommy, Rita, shared the painful reality their family carries.

Ciro knows that after his upcoming hospital visit, it’s time for his birthday party. His parents reassure him while quietly carrying the fear of not knowing what tomorrow may bring.

After two years of living with the possibility of going back to battle or losing the fight, they keep going. They hope, stay strong for Ciro, and keep fighting.

This is the reality of childhood cancer.

No child should fight cancer alone.

Today, our Executive Director and Co-Founder, Ray Sanchez, had the opportunity to participate as a panelist in a virtual conversation with Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. team members and fellow community leaders.

Ray shared the Smiles From Heaven story, the realities families in Laredo face when accessing specialized care, and why lived experience and community voice must be part of creating solutions that truly meet families where they are.

We’re grateful to MHM for continuing to listen, learn, and invest in communities across South Texas.
