💜 Substances & Consent: What You Need to Know

Consent can become more complicated when alcohol or other substances are involved, but one thing is always clear: consent must be freely given, informed, and ongoing.

Before engaging in sexual activity, check in with your partner. Are they alert and aware of what's happening? Can they understand the situation and communicate their choices? If someone is too intoxicated to understand what's happening or make and communicate a voluntary choice, they cannot consent. When you're unsure, stop. It's always better to wait until everyone can clearly and freely communicate their consent.

Looking out for your partner means respecting their boundaries, paying attention to their well-being, and never making assumptions. Consent is a shared responsibility, and everyone deserves a safe, respectful, and consensual experience. 💜

No begging.
No guilt trips.
No “but why?”
No trying to change their mind.

If someone says no, respect the no and keep it moving. 💜

And remember: pressure doesn’t become consent just because someone eventually gives in.

Give people room to make their own choices, respect their boundaries, and don’t make them feel bad for saying no.

Consent is freely given, not pressured into existence.

Take a few slow breaths to help calm your body.

Ask yourself, “What am I feeling right now?”

Put words to the emotion instead of letting it take over.

Ask yourself, “How do I want to respond?”

Didn't like how you responded? Try again. You can always reset.

Good afternoon y'all!

We will be doing outreach testing this Thursday October 15th at Pinseeker Golf Lounge from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. We'll not only be providing free services for HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Testing, but we will also be providing free food!

Results for HIV and Syphilis come out 15min or less! Services are entirely confidential! And all done in a fun environment! Don't wait up! Services are first come, first serve and those who are late may miss out! We hope to see y'all there Laredo!

But there are still so many topics that don’t always get the conversation they deserve. We want to help make these conversations feel a little less uncomfortable, a little less stigmatized, and a lot more open. 🗣️

Happy National Disease Intervention Specialist Appreciation Day everyone!

We'd like to give a special thanks to our DIS Rosa Cantu! She has been working alongside PILLAR for a substantial amount of time. She helps navigate clients through continued disease treatment and other services that they benefit from.

Not only is she helping those clients who require this service, she is also helping the rest of Laredo by ensuring the overall health of our community through care and education. With that, we can ensure that you! The Community of Laredo! Can continue to live a life that is happy and healthy.

Once again, special thanks to Rosa Cantu! Without the time and passion you have provided to us, we wouldn't be able to work towards the common community health nearly as well! Here's to many more years of ensuring the health of our home town!
