Every quiet moment. Every gentle touch. Every tear wiped and worry eased. Breastfeeding weaves a bond that lasts far beyond babyhood.

At La Leche League USA, we walk beside families through these tender moments—offering guidance, encouragement, and a community that truly cares.

With your support, we can continue to be a lifeline for parents who need reassurance, answers, and most of all, connection.

[Image Description] A soft, watercolor-style background with marbled gold accents surrounds a photo of a parent lovingly breastfeeding a baby while seated on a couch. Above the photo, the text reads, "The Heart of Parenting Is Connection." Below the image, it says, "Breastfeeding is more than nutrition – it’s about connection, comfort, and a lifelong anchor of love." In the bottom right corner is the La Leche League USA logo, featuring a stylized illustration of a mother nursing her child in a teal circle surrounded by stars.

It’s all about the glandular tissue! 🙌

It’s all about the glandular tissue! 🙌

💛 Fatty Tissue:
Shown in yellow in diagrams, fatty tissue largely determines the size of your breasts.

🍇 Glandular Tissue:
The milk-making powerhouse! It resembles tiny bunches of grapes, with each "grape" (alveolus) filling with milk. These contract to send milk through thin ducts to the multiple openings in your ni***es.

Fun Fact:
Glandular tissue starts developing during puberty. More is added with every pregnancy and through breastfeeding, creating a unique milk-making system tailored just for your baby.

While you can’t know how much glandular tissue you have, your body is designed to make milk for your baby. Need support or have questions? LLLC is here for you! 💙

young child feeding practices: a scoping review

The economic cost of not breastfeeding or weaning early is far more than just the cost of formula. According to this 2024 analysis, too-little breastfeeding costs the U.S. $100 billion each year if we factor in more infant illness and death, the financial impact of lower child IQ, and the premature deaths of women who don’t breastfeed or cut it short.
