That’s a wrap on Week 1! 💙☀️

Thank you to everyone who joined us in the greenhouse for Cyanotype Sun Prints. We met Laramie’s native plants with Sarah B. Lemli of the Williams Conservatory, painted on the chemistry, and let the sun do the rest. Every print came out one of a kind.

This was only the first of our four-week art + science series, and there’s still time to join! Next up is Patterns of Place this Saturday: potato printing and the science patterns with guest scientist Dr. Mia Tuccillo.

🗓️ Sat, Oct 24 • 2-4pm
📍 4th St Studios, 315 S 4th St
🎟️ $15, materials + refreshments included

Thank you to the Wyoming Arts Council for supporting our fall art series! 🌀

Tickets at the link in bio. See you Saturday! 🥔

Meet us in the Greenhouse! 🌿✨

This fall, Science Loves Art is bringing a 4-week art + science series to the restored 1926 greenhouse at 4th Street Studios. Our new artist, Misia Lerska, walks you through what we’ll be making each week. Swipe to hear it from her! ➡️

☀️ Week 1: Cyanotype Sun Prints · Sun, Oct 18
Plant specialist Sarah B. Lemli of the Williams Conservatory introduces the native plants that grow around Laramie and how to plant them yourself. Then we’ll turn them into deep-blue prints using nothing but sunlight.

🥔 Week 2: Patterns of Place · Sat, Oct 24
Inspired by Ruth Asawa’s playful potato prints, we’ll carve potatoes and gather leaves to print the patterns hidden in our landscape.

🦬 Week 3: Where the Buffalo Return · Sun, Nov 1
A poetry + drawing workshop celebrating the return of bison to Wyoming’s plains.

🎨 Week 4: Layers of Time · Sat, Nov 7
From ancient stromatolites to Pollock-style drip painting, we’ll build up layers of color the way the earth builds up layers of rock.

🕑 All workshops 2–4pm
📍 4th Street Studios, 315 S. 4th St, Laramie
🎟 $15 per workshop, materials and refreshments included

Come to one or all four! Tickets at the link in bio.

Meet one of the artist leading our new art classes & experiences: Misia Lerska! 🎨🌿

Misia just moved to Laramie from New York, fresh off an MFA from NYU, where she also taught art to undergrads, exploring how AI is changing creativity. She’s a multimedia artist known for her installations, a newly published children’s book author, and lately an oil painter inspired by Wyoming landscapes.

Like us, she believes the best science is a little artistic, and the best art is a little scientific. 🔬✨
Her first workshop is THIS SUNDAY! Join us for Cyanotype Sun Prints, where we’ll turn native plants into deep-blue prints using nothing but sunlight ☀️💙

🗓️ Sunday, Oct 18 • 2-4pm
📍 4th St Studios, 315 S 4th St
🎟️ $15, materials and refreshments included.
Tickets at the link in bio.

Swipe to hear from Misia herself ➡️

No camera. No ink. Just sunlight. ☀️

Week 1 of In the Greenhouse is all about cyanotypes, the 1800s printing process that turns plants into deep-blue silhouettes. We’ll meet the plants growing around Laramie, arrange them on light-sensitive paper and let the sun do the rest! Rinse, and watch the blue appear.

My niece, Katie Sykes has been a huge part of Science Loves Art for several years now. She keeps our Kits made up and stocked, helps with shipments, and keeps things going behind the scenes. She also shares and supports our outreach and I love having her work with me on this dream and art and outreach.
