Sadly, our season is coming to an end much sooner than any of us would like. As a reminder, the 12" rule is in effect all season long.

What does that mean for spring riding? Off-trail riding is still allowed as long as there is a solid 12" of snow underneath your sled anywhere you ride that is not on the designated trail.

Please plan ahead, safety shelters at Quealy and Nelson have been taken off the mountain and grooming operations are coming to an end.

Did you know there is a safety shelter on the Sierras too? It's just off the D trail (around mm40 on Highway 70). Thanks to Wyoming State Trails for taking care of this one!

Same rules apply, haul in/haul out, leave it better than you found it!

🚨 Snowmobile Safety Alert: Use Extreme Caution This Season 🚨

The Wyoming State Trails Program is urging snowmobilers to slow down and ride cautiously this winter.

The season has already seen four snowmobile-related fatalities in Wyoming, highlighting dangerous trail conditions across the state.

“Many high-elevation trails are open, but conditions are far from ideal,” said State Trails Program manager Forrest Kamminga. “Riders are encountering hard, icy, and packed snow that significantly reduces control.”

What riders need to know:
• Trails are icy and hard-packed due to limited snowfall

• Braking, steering, and cornering are compromised

• Downhill sections pose a higher risk of losing control

• Low snow cover increases the chance of hitting rocks, stumps, or timber—especially off-trail

Safety reminders:
• Slow down and allow more time to stop

• Choose shorter routes or less demanding terrain

• Stay on established trails whenever possible

Snowmobiling is an important winter tradition in Wyoming. Until snowfall improves conditions, riders should assume every turn and descent carries added risk. The goal of every ride is to return home safely.

⚠️ Mountain Hazards!

Now that the season is in full swing, a few words of caution before you embark on your snowmobile adventure.

📸 1 & 2 : A new buckrail fence along the N trail (just north of South Twin Lake) to protect the area from wheeled vehicle damage. The top rail is just showing here and both sides are marked with "X" trail markers.

📸 3 : Giant roots! Don't be caught off guard when you encounter one of these giants in the trees. They are everywhere and almost always in inconvenient spots.

📸 4 & 5 : Open water. It has been warm on the mountain! Many water holes that are usually filled in by now are still open.

📸 6 & 7 : Downed trees. The Wyoming State Trails team has cleared trees from all of the marked trails. It is likely that you may encounter trees down on some of your favorite non-trail routes. Watch your head!
