Our last "Meet the Officers" Post features our Historian and 2 Joint Engineering Council (JEC), Representatives!

Our historian, Alex Lewallen, is a junior in civil engineering and has a minor in business as well! She has been attending SWE since January of 2018.
Alex is "looking forward to seeing so many new faces at the meetings!"
Her advice for young girls and women?
"One piece of advice I have is definitely get involved as much as you can. You get to meet so many new people and get some amazing experience with some wonderful ladies."

Our JEC reps are Alma Burwell and Heather Hensman!
Alma is working on her second bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering! She has been with us here in SWE since December of 2017.
Alma is looking to forward "getting to go deeper into what SWE is all about and how it operates."
Her advice for girls who are considering STEM is "don't be afraid to admit that you love something, or you hate something."

Heather is a senior this year in electrical engineering! This is her second semester as a part of SWE and as a part of UW!
She is looking forward to the National Conference this year and getting to know all the women participating in SWE.
Her advice?
"Just go for it! I was told by a few people when I started engineering that engineering wasn’t a place for a woman. It doesn’t matter if you are a woman, as long as you put in the effort and know what you’re doing engineering is for anyone! Also, make sure you enjoy what you do! If you’re not happy with the discipline you’re in go ahead and change to something you like better! I started in Mining Engineering and decided it wasn’t for me and moved to Electrical Engineering and absolutely love it!"

Thank you, ladies, for being a part of this amazing chapter and organization!
