Feeding Laramie Valley

Feeding Laramie Valley Feeding Laramie Valley projects support their mission to help get fresh produce to more people. Our motto is: "Sharing the best of what we have."

We are community based and community led, with the majority of our efforts made possible by volunteers. In the Summer, FLV hosts a free lunch program for kids, we collaborate with the Unviersity on multiple projects including Gardens for Health and Healing, FLV puts on the annual Higher Ground Fair in Laramie and work with numerous AmeriCorps VISTA throughout the entire year. From July through Sep

tember, we are at the Laramie Farmer's Markets every Thursday and Friday from 3 - 7 p.m. accepting produce donations from your own garden or from something you purchase at the Market while you're there. Food is then distributed to where it's needed most.

Springtime in the Rockies! Greetings from Llamas of a Coral Dawn and me, Gayle Woodsum up near Albany. We’ve got 15" of snow so far, snow is still falling hard and will be until later tonight. So, I can’t make it to open up the Feeding Laramie Valley building today. Will be working on messages for all the community gardeners eager to start planting (as soon as Laramie Parks water is turned on!), notices for Shares to be back on track soon, Kids Out to Lunch at LaBonte Park starting on June 15, Higher Ground Fair updates and so much more! And thank you, Mother Nature for all this fabulous and beautiful moisture us gardeners and food producers are in desperate need of!

Compared to standard heading broccoli, mini broccoli is easier to grow because it more reliably produces a
crop under the fluctuating temperatures common in spring and in less-than-optimal fertility and soil moisture.
The florets are sweeter and more tender than standard broccoli. Plus, they regrow within a few days after
harvesting and thus have a longer harvest window. With a strong market and crop plan, this specialty broccoli
product can find a profitable spot in your operation.

Salanova lettuces are selected for extremely uniform, small leaflets, so that when cut, the leaves are all salad size, unlike those of a standard head of lettuce.

In addition, the heads are extremely dense, packed with layers of leaves, so that the yield potential of these varieties is outstanding.

Because the lettuce you're harvesting is from a fully mature head, you get the deep coloration, heavy leaf, and textured appearance that make for an absolutely excellent salad mix — one that fills the bag quickly, has exceptional flavor, and great loft.

Also, this mix will store much longer than a standard baby leaf lettuce mix, because the leaves are not as easily damaged.

Salanova provides for a more reliable and flexible growing program, compared to traditional baby leaf: With its reliable germination and less wasted field space, heads can be harvested during a wide window of maturity — when your market is ready — unlike time-sensitive baby leaf.
