The River Parishes Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc was chartered on March 23, 2013. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200

,000 predominately Black college educated women. This includes over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea. The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization's Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, Educational Development, Political Awareness and Involvement, and International Awareness and Involvement. Empowering Our Youth to Glow Up, Level Up, and Power Up! ❤️💜✨

The River Parishes Alumnae Chapter, in partnership with the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), proudly hosted its inaugural Youth Empowerment Summit on May 30, 2026, at Fifth Ward Preparatory Academy.

Youth ages 11–18 participated in interactive sessions focused on community safety, civic engagement, stress management, leadership, and healthy living. Parents and caregivers also gained valuable tools through a Parent Connection session designed to strengthen family support and advocacy.

The day concluded with a powerful discussion on youth mental health and energizing performances by K. Levy and T99ZY, leaving attendees inspired to “Glow Up, Level Up, and Power Up!”

Members of the River Parishes Alumnae Chapter were among the nearly 5,000 in attendance this weekend, both in person and virtually, for the 50th Regional Conference of the Southwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

We returned home more inspired than when we arrived, ready to transform what we have learned into meaningful action that will benefit our chapter and community. We are also excited to have returned home with two awards: 1st Place in Social Action and 3rd Place in Strategic Partnerships.

Thank you to our chapter members who were in attendance for showing up, engaging fully, and representing our chapter with excellence throughout the conference. Your presence, support, and Delta spirit played an important role in the success of this experience.

The River Parishes Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is honored to be recognized with the Regional Social Action Award – 1st Place (Small Alumnae Chapter) received at the 50th Southwest Regional Conference in Grapevine, TX.

This award recognizes our impactful work with the 2025 Expungement Event, hosted in partnership with Representative Ken Brass, Southern University Law Center, and River Parishes Community College – a powerful effort to uplift and restore justice in our community.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, the River Parishes Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is proud to launch our Mental Health Matters Campaign—a space where we share personal reflections on why mental wellness is important to us.

Mental health impacts every aspect of our lives—how we think, heal, connect, lead, and care for ourselves and others. Through vulnerability, awareness, and conversation, we hope to encourage support, reduce stigma, and remind our community that prioritizing mental wellness is a sign of strength.

On Tuesday, May 19th, the Ladies of River Parishes Alumnae Chapter made a special delivery!

Period Poverty Awareness Drive items collected during this month and Period Poverty Awareness Week May 11th -17th from chapter members and supporters in the community were assembled into full bags distributed to students onsite. Due to the success of this drive, we were able to make a double impact as a container of products were presented both to St. John
Alternative School in Reserve and Eual J. Landry Educational Programs Center in Luling for students in need.

A special thanks to members of the community for joining us in donating items to support the access of menstrual products to the youth in our service area.
