Tuesday Toolmen

Tuesday Toolmen The Tuesday Toolmen are a group of volunteers who work every Tuesday to help low income seniors and adults with disabilities remain in their homes.

Capital Area Housing Partnership's Tuesday Toolmen program is a group of volunteers who gather each week to build entry ramps and install other safety and accessibility devices for our neighbors in need across mid-Michigan.

Happy Friday! Our Tuesday Toolmen volunteer crew has been building accessibility ramps all summer, including for our neighbor, Elizabeth. Before her ramp, Elizabeth relied on her grandson to assist her down the front stairs of her home to run errands and make appointments. In partnership with the Clinton-Gratiot Habitat for Humanity, the Tuesday Toolmen erected a ramp for Elizabeth to maneuver all on her own easily. It warms our hearts to watch her independently exit her home for the first time effortlessly, and we're grateful to our hard-working Toolmen for another job well done!

New building season, same mission! The Tuesday Toolmen are back in action. The crew kicked off the year by constructing a ramp inside the garage of a gracious homeowner in Holt. Now she can safely enter and exit her home with ease.

Thank you to the Lansing State Journal for highlighting to last week's ramp build! When the Tuesday Toolmen show up at someone's home in the morning, the resident might be confined to their space, unable to enter or exit their home freely. By the end of the day, that person has a smile and maybe some tears, because they can live their life the way they want, with dignity and fewer struggles, after our volunteer group's help.

The Tuesday Toolmen are a dedicated volunteer group that, rain or shine, works every Tuesday to improve lives in mid-Michigan.

Our Tuesday Toolmen volunteers braved the cold this week to build a ramp for Kathy from Lansing, so when she arrives home from her surgery, she’ll be able to enter her front door all on her own. Read all about it thanks to WLNS Nate Salazar who covered the story.

The Tuesday Toolmen have one goal in mind.

BRRR! 🥶 It's chilly out this morning, but the weather isn't stopping our Tuesday Toolmen from building a ramp in Lansing today! Check back later to see their work. In the meantime, hear about our recently completed projects for our neighbors.

First is Shirley from Lansing, who relied on a very steep ramp that was hard to use. Our volunteers rebuilt her ramp to accessibility standards with less incline and stabilized her back steps too. Today, Shirley is thrilled she can take her dog out safely, and her caregiver can assist in her daily routine and make medical appointments.

Finally, the crew went to Dansville to construct a ramp for a wonderful person who recently had her leg amputated. Ingham County Sheriff's Office Scott Wriggelsworth stopped by to check on our progress and say hi to his dad, Gene, one of our incredible volunteers. The crew finished early enough so she could head out to the polls to cast her vote on Election Day! Shout out to Capital Area Community Services for making this accessibility project possible.

Mother Nature loves to take its toll on our homes, especially in Michigan. Our Tuesday Toolmen volunteers split up to help two homeowners in Lansing by stabilizing their access to their homes before winter arrives.

The first crew shipped out to help an 89-year-old resident who relies on her accessibility ramp. After 10-plus years in the elements, her ramp was due for repairs. Thanks to the Tuesday Toolmen, they restored the structural integrity of her ramp to provide continued use for years to come.

Our second crew aided an elderly couple who could not use their front entrance steps as their condition deteriorated over time. Thanks to our Tuesday Toolmen, they rehabilitated their steps and railings so the homeowners could use them safely and welcome their family and friends when they visit.

Thank you to our volunteers for making a difference every Tuesday!

As Iris went to school on a beautiful fall morning, our Tuesday Toolmen volunteers rolled up their sleeves to build her an accessibility ramp. The crew worked diligently throughout the day to complete it just before she arrived home. It is a joy to deliver this ramp as it will ensure she has safe, independent access to her home!

The crew is out today to build another ramp for another deserving neighbor. Check back later to see the results!

Yesterday, our Tuesday Toolmen crew was in St. Johns to build an accessibility ramp in partnership with the Clinton-Gratiot Habitat for Humanity. This ramp will benefit a deserving neighbor and their son, who they rely on as their caregiver. Thank you to Redeemer Church: DeWitt - St Johns for preparing and delivering lunch to our volunteers!

Happy Friday, everyone! This Tuesday, the volunteer crew completed one of their biggest projects of the year for an 85-year-old Lansing resident. The stairs from her front door were steep and becoming difficult to manage. Thanks to the Tuesday Toolmen, our accessibility ramp will enhance her ability to remain living safely, independently, and comfortably at home for years to come!
