My Brothers Keeper Metro Lansing - MBK Metro Lansing

My Brothers Keeper Metro Lansing - MBK Metro Lansing MBK Metro Lansing was created when Mayor Virg Benaro accepted the MBK Challenge from President Obama in June 2014 to grow mentoring around the US

Mayor Virg Bernero was one of the 1st in the nation to accept President Obama’s My Brother’s

Keeper Challenge (MBK) in October 2014. Coming to the Challenge with a cradle-to-career action plan drafted, Lansing has been cited on numerous calls and e-mails as a model for other MBK

Challenge Early Acceptors. Lansing is highlighted on page 12 of the February 2015 White House MBK Task Force 1 Year

Progress Report to President Obama and the nation. What makes Lansing’s MBK Challenge unique is the partnership between the City of Lansing and One Love Global Inc. Mayor Virg Benero endorsed and embraced a community-driven action plan that builds on the assets of youth, families and over 100 partnering organizations. One Love Global is the convener of the Lansing region’s MBK Challenge with a common goal to promote economic equity for families with children of color ages 0-25. According the National Equity Atlas, the Lansing/East Lansing region would gain a return on investment of $1 billion dollars by closing racial gaps in economic equity. In 2012, the Michigan economy would have been $28.9 billion larger if there had been no racial gaps in income.
