Mediation... but in the year 1783? 📜

On September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed, formally ending the American Revolutionary War.

After years of conflict, representatives from the newly formed United States and Great Britain met to negotiate peace.

While the Treaty of Paris wasn't mediation as we practice ADR today, its history is a powerful reminder that negotiation has long been used to resolve even the most significant conflicts.

Turns out, choosing peace over conflict isn't new!

From farm transitions and financial concerns to contracts and other agricultural disputes, mediation offers an opportunity to talk through challenges and work toward solutions together.

Because sometimes, the best way forward starts with a conversation.

💜 September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month 💙

Starting a conversation can feel difficult, especially if someone we care about is struggling. A little compassion can go a long way, even when you don't know what to say.

Reach out. Listen. Provide resources.

A compassionate conversation can remind someone that they aren't alone. We don't have to have all the answers to show someone that we care.

This month, we encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with the people around them. This could be a friend, coworker, family member, neighbor, or anyone who may need someone to listen.

And if you'd like to take that awareness a step further, education can help.

Through our partnership with safeTALK, RSCCM provides presentations for courts, businesses, and community organizations that want to build their capacity to recognize warning signs, have compassionate conversations, and connect people with resources to further care.

Confused about the difference between counseling and mediation? You’re not alone.

While counseling focuses on helping individuals understand their thoughts and emotions, mediation is a structured, short-term process designed to help people in conflict reach a resolution on a specific issue.

At Michigan Behavioral Health Mediation Services, they can provide a supportive, neutral space where conversations can move forward productively.

When conflict comes up on the farm, finding a solution can feel like an uphill battle.

And agricultural mediation is showing that resolution is possible.

For the past three years, Michigan’s Agricultural Mediation Program has reported an 80–100% success rate—helping farmers and agricultural communities work through disputes and find a path forward.

From farm and business disagreements to issues involving agricultural loans, contracts, and more, mediation provides a space to work toward solutions that make sense for everyone involved.

Sometimes, the best solutions are the ones we grow together! 🍓

When life gives you lemons... Thank the farmers! 💛

Many of the summer treats we enjoy, from fresh lemonade to lemon meringue pie, are made possible by the hard work of farmers and agricultural producers.

Like any profession, challenges and disputes can arise. Michigan Agricultural Mediation provides a confidential and constructive way to address conflicts before they become larger problems.

This summer, we're recognizing the people who help put food and drinks on our tables, and reminding them that support is available when they need it.
