Michigan Chemistry Council summer visits to our member sites have begun! Last week we were in Ludington, MI, at the OxyChem site with Congressman Moolenaar and American Chemistry Council’s, Colin Brecher, to learn more about the beneficial uses of calcium chloride that’s produced there. Did you know that CaCl2 is used for food enhancement, medicine, water hardening, and for road applications for dust control and in concrete?

OxyChem’s Michigan site is the largest producer of CaCl2 in the world, with an impressive 400+ year reserve in the deposit. Special thanks to Brett VanderLinden and Chris Guidry from OxyChem for hosting us. You can learn more about OxyChem and the benefits of CaCl2 at https://www.oxycalciumchloride.com/about-us.

Today, the Michigan Chemistry Council and Michigan Manufacturers Association announced a new formal affiliation to strengthen advocacy efforts on behalf of the business of chemistry and Michigan's manufacturing sector.

We are also delighted to announce the MCC's new Executive Director, Sara Cambensy. Sara most recently served in the Michigan House of Representatives representing the Marquette area. Sara is a recognized leader with a record of working across the aisle to advance good policy & represent her constituents.

MCC members are invited to join a special membership meeting on Friday, March 10th to introduce our new Executive Director and review several minor changes to organizational bylaws. All MCC members are encouraged to participate in-person, remotely, through a designee, or by proxy.

MMA's formal relationship with the Michigan Chemistry Council (MCC) is a brand new day of opportunity for both organizations with long histories of success that, together, can build upon Michigan’s manufacturing legacy.

Calcium chloride, made by OxyChem Calcium Chloride in Ludington, is one of the world's toughest deicers.
CaCl2 is more effective than regular salt because it can work with less moisture & is exothermic (it can generate its own heat) and work down to -25°F.
