The leading cause of homelessness for women and children is domestic violence. One of the tactics that perpetrators of violence use to destabilize victims is financial abuse which both leads to homelessness and makes recovering from homelessness worse. Perpetrators use this tactic because they often believe that their victim has no place to go- they will be forced to go back to the abusive relationship.

This webinar is a must attend for anyone who works in the homeless service delivery system.

⚠️This is your LAST WEEK to sign up for Summer Veggie Box!!! ⚠️

The goal of Veggie Box is to create a more holistic and resilient community that prioritizes supporting local. We strive to have significant long-term impacts on mid-Michigan’s food system: substantial economic benefits for local farmers and food producers, and hundreds of people who have access to nutritionally-dense, local food. But even more than this, we hope to nurture a sense of place and belonging between both members and suppliers. Food is powerful. It brings us together, shapes our memories, and empowers our communities. It allows us to be more open, more vulnerable with one another. Growing and sharing food is such an intimate experience and creates an important bond. In this day and age in which people are so disconnected from our local food system, we are committed to re-learning and strengthening this bond.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. The CSA model helps to keep sustainable farming a viable way of life for small-scale family farms that are increasingly threatened by large-scale agribusiness. Allen Neighborhood Center’s model is a multi-farm CSA that unites dozens of growers to feed a common community – all of you! It provides the advantages of a traditional CSA, but also highlights crop diversity, minimized risks and burden, and a more cooperative feel.
