Happy Flag Day from the American Legion Riders
Today, June 14th, we honor the Stars and Stripes—the enduring symbol of our nation's freedom, sacrifice, and unity. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
Many Americans are familiar with the traditional folding of the flag into a triangle, but few know the meaning often associated with each of the 13 folds:
1️⃣ Symbol of life
2️⃣ Belief in eternal life
3️⃣ Honor and remembrance of our veterans
4️⃣ Recognition of our human weaknesses and trust in God
5️⃣ Tribute to our country
6️⃣ Where our hearts lie—in loyalty and devotion
7️⃣ Tribute to our Armed Forces
8️⃣ Tribute to those who entered the valley of the shadow of death and gave their lives for our nation
9️⃣ Tribute to womanhood, faith, love, and devotion
🔟 Tribute to fathers who have sacrificed for their families and country
1️⃣1️⃣ Represents the lower portion of the Seal of King David and King Solomon, glorifying God
1️⃣2️⃣ Represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
1️⃣3️⃣ When completed, the folded flag resembles the colonial tricorn hat worn by the patriots who fought for American independence.
While these meanings are part of a long-standing ceremonial tradition rather than official law, they remind us of the values, sacrifices, and freedoms our flag represents.
Today, take a moment to display your flag proudly, reflect on the blessings of liberty, and remember those who have defended it. God Bless America, our Veterans, Active-Duty Military, First Responders, and all who serve.
