Motor Carrier Officer Clyde Gentry spoke in Lansing today prior to the Supreme Court hearing about the stalled healthcare and pension bills. Some MSEA Staff, MSP Spokesperson MCO Gentry, President VanSickle, Secretary Stoken, and Region 6 Director Doyle attended the press conference and sat in on the oral arguments this morning. We are hopeful the Supreme Court will uphold the lower courts previous decision and force the Michigan House to send the stalled bills to the governor. The fight is not over.

Senator John Damoose took to the floor to continue spreading the word and restate the need for our State Law Enforcement Officers to have the pension plan they are rightfully due after having the legislation passed in both chambers. MSEA will keep members updated on the status of the pension bills and the pending Michigan Supreme Court case.

MCO Josh Roll was presented with the HeartSaver Hero Award by the American Heart Association back in February for his swift actions to save his neighbors life even while off duty. Thank you MCO Roll for your service and dedication to our state and community!

An off-duty Michigan State Police motor carrier officer is being recognized after helping save a neighbor’s life during a cardiac emergency.

Motor Carrier Officer Josh Roll, of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, received the American Heart Association’s HeartSaver Hero Award on February 11. He was also presented with the Michigan State Police Lifesaving Award on February 25 for his quick actions during the incident.

The emergency happened October 10, 2025, when Roll was contacted by a neighbor about a medical situation. Though off duty, Roll immediately grabbed his first aid kit and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from his patrol vehicle and rushed to help.

They are integral in the workforce that maintains the infrastructure that the citizens of Michigan count on. Today we highlight our MSEA Departmental Spokesperson and Region 6 Director, Jesse Stoken. Jesse works at MDOT as Transportation Maintenance Worker. She has worked in construction prior to MDOT as well. Jesse is a shining example of not only how women are vital to the construction workforce but also can be a dynamic leader.
