The HOF Committee congratulates Norman Gill on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Norman Gill was the 1952 Wrestling State Champion at 120 pounds, helping Sexton secure a tie for the 5A Conference title and a Runner-up finish at the State Wrestling meet. In 1951 Gill was the State Runner Up at 112 pounds with Sexton finishing the season at 5th place in the State Meet. In addition to wrestling, Gill was also a member of the 1952 cross country team. Norman was an early graduate in 1953 after starting the season 4-0, so he didn’t get the chance to defend his State Title, but he did go on to wrestle for Michigan State from 1955-1957.

After earning his degree in Electrical Engineering, Gill had a decorated military career in Army Aviation. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Air medals, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. When not in combat, he was also a helicopter instruction pilot at Fort Rucker in Alabama, retiring as a Lt. Col in 1976. Gill then worked in civilian role in Army Aviation at Fort Rucker until he retired in 2000.

The HOF Committee congratulates Gilbert Hill on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Gilbert Hill was a three-year varsity wrestler at Sexton from 1951-1953. In 1951 Hill finished 3rd place at the State Meet in the 145 pound division with Sexton taking 5th in the team standings. As a junior in 1952 Gilbert went undefeated on his way to winning the individual state championship at 154 pounds. Hill was a key wrestler that year helping the team to a tie for the 5A Title and a State Runner Up finish at States. In 1953 as a senior Hill was an early graduate so he was not able to defend his state championship. However, he did start the season off 4-0 beating his opponents with a combined point total of 35-9 before he graduated.

Hill was also on the track and field team at Sexton competing in the 120- and 180-yard hurdles, 100-yard dash, broad jump, and high jump. In 1952 as a junior he qualified for the State Meet in the 180-yard low hurdles and the broad jump. His second-place finish in the 180-yard low hurdles earned him All State honors. Hill was also a fullback on the Big Red football team.

After graduating from Sexton, Gilbert served for 3 years in the United States Army, attended Michigan State University and earned a Masters Degree, and retired from Lansing Community College after 40 years of service.

The Sexton HOF Committee congratulates Ray Reglin on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Ray Reglin wrestled at Sexton from 1951-1953 and was a member of the 1952 State Runner Up and 1953 State Championship teams. In 1953 Reglin went undefeated winning the State Championship in the Heavy Weight division. Ray was also a lineman on the 1951 and 1952 football teams.

After graduation Ray earned two bachelor’s degrees from Olivet Nazarene University, a master’s degree from Pasadena College, and a PhD from United States International University in San Diego California. Reglin pastored Nazarene churches in Michigan, Wisconsin, California, and Kansas.

The Sexton HOF Committee congratulates Donald Granger on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Donald Granger wrestled at Sexton from 1951-1953 going undefeated in 1953 and winning the State Championship at 138 pounds. Granger helped lead Sexton to a team State title in 1953 and was a member of the State Runner Up team in 1952. In addition, during Grangers career the Big Reds were back-to-back 5A Conference champions

After graduating from Sexton, Donald was in the construction business for over 40 years. He started his career with Granger Brothers Construction and later was a self-employed Home Builder.

The HOF Committee congratulates Fred Schworer on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Fred Schworer wrestled at Sexton from 1952-1954 and was a two-time individual State Champion. In 1953 Fred went undefeated capturing the State Championship at 133 pounds while Sexton won the team State Championship. As a senior, Schworer continued his dominance, going undefeated and winning the State Championship in the 145 pound weight division. Sexton finished the season as the State Runner Up in 1954.

In addition to wrestling, Schworer was a member of the cross country, football, and track teams. After graduating from Sexton, Schworer attended Ferris Institute (Ferris State University) and was a member of the first track and field team in school history.

The HOF Committee congratulates Donald Stroud on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Donald Stroud was a varsity wrestler from 1952-1954. In 1952 Donald qualified for the State Meet and was a State Semifinalist for the State Runner Up Big Red wrestling team. The following year Stroud was the 1953 State Champion at 113 pounds going undefeated as a member of the State Championship wrestling team. As a senior he was undefeated again, winning the 1954 State Championship at 120 pounds while leading Sexton to a State Runner Up finish. Don was also the 1953 AAU State Champion at 121 pounds and competed in the 1954 National AAU Meet in San Diego California. In addition to wrestling, Don played on the tennis team and ran cross country earning all-city honors in 1953.

After graduation Stroud wrestled for Michigan State from 1956-1958. Donald was the 1956 Big Ten Champion at 123 pounds and was the runner up in 1958 at 130 pounds. Stroud was an NCAA All American in 1958 competing in the National Championship meet helping the Spartans to a 4th place finish.

The HOF Committee congratulates William Swix on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

William Swix was a two-time wrestling State Champion going undefeated in his 29 regular season matches in his three years at Sexton. In 1952 Swix was the State Champion at 95 pounds with an undefeated record on a Big Red team that finished as the State Runner Up and tied for the 5A Conference Title.

In 1953 Sexton won the team State Championship and Swix had an undefeated regular season, and was the State Runner Up 103 pounds at the State Meet. The following year Swix won his second individual State Championship, this time at 112 pounds with Sexton finishing as the State Runner Up in 1954.

The HOF Committee congratulates Gordon Swix on his induction into the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Gordon Swix won back-to-back State Championships in Wrestling in 1956 and 1957. In 1956, wrestling at 95 pounds he was the Lansing Invitational Champion, going undefeated into the State Wrestling meet where he helped lead Sexton to a 3rd place finish. In the championship match he beat his opponent 10-2 on points to secure his first individual State Championship.

In 1957 he also won the Lansing Invitational and Regional Championship at 103 pounds, leading the Sexton wrestling team to an undefeated 13-0 regular season record and a 6-A conference championship. At the state meet held at Jenison Fieldhouse Swix won the championship match by a score of 9-2 to take the title at 103 pounds with Sexton finishing 3rd in the State for the second consecutive year.
