Celebrating Women's History Month:
💚💜Women who Shape a Sustainable Future

The legacy I want to leave is the same legacy that I want to create and that I am creating NOW.

This legacy includes a community of people who has access to credit, capital, housing, 720 and above credit score, savings beyond a reserve account, improved yields on their money, access to resources, financially educated.

It is a community where businesses want to be part of and invest in, it is a resilient and thriving community. Finally, it is a community where payday lenders no longer exist.

Celebrating Women's History Month:
💚💜Women who Shape a Sustainable Future

Creating a sustainable future is not a single act or grand gesture. It is shaped through my choices, actions, and moments of courage. Sustainability is about agency, power, and Change long-term impact — and women are the beginning, the center, and the end of the story.

A sustainable future starts with me. I believe in protecting my peace, setting boundaries, investing in personal growth, and surrounding myself with communities that uplift and empower each other. These practices are not luxuries; they are the foundation for meaningful, lasting change.

I also emphasize the importance of advocating for fair policies within organizations, mentoring young women, and challenging systems that expect women to be seen but not heard. As a Black woman, I believe deeply in taking up space and speaking boldly — not only for myself, but for all marginalized communities. My decision to run for the Lansing City Charter Commission was rooted in a desire to make a lasting contribution to my community and to help shape a sustainable future for Lansing. I understand that representation matters, and that my presence could amplify the voices of those who felt unseen or unheard.

A woman creates a sustainable future by refusing to shrink, by investing in herself, and by building systems that outlast her. Sustainability means creating a world where women thrive, lead, and shape the narrative.
With more than 30 years of government and community relations experience — including twelve years of service on the City of Lansing Board of Ethics — I hope my lasting legacy will be one of service, impact, and a community strengthened by my commitment to equity and inclusion.

Celebrating Women's History Month:
💚💜Women who Shape a Sustainable Future

A sustainable future requires women to work in community with others to reimagine and rebuild educational systems so they are equitable by design—preparing students not only to succeed in the world as it is, but to transform it into what it must become. This means leading schools, districts, and universities with unwavering courage; mentoring the next generation of educators to be strategic in cultivating and maintaining a democratic citizenry; and designing learning spaces where every child’s brilliance is seen, nurtured, and protected.

The legacy I want to leave is one where Black educators and youth are able to enact freedom and joy in educational spaces that they curate and in those that were not designed for them. I also want my ideas and actions for racial justice and educational justice to live on through courageous youth and adult leaders within and outside of institutions, who are working to create and sustain liberatory pathways of opportunity for generations to come.

Women strengthen communities by leading systemic change—shaping policy, stewarding resources, mentoring future educators, and building learning ecosystems that are resilient, inclusive, and rooted in collective thriving. This is the necessary work that women must continue that was started by courageous women long before my time.
