Here is a useful link to assist the Posts. This is for the VA grave locator. As long as the veteran has a government headstone they should be able to be located here. I have used this site many times. http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/

Search for burial locations of veterans and their family members in VA National Cemeteries, state veterans cemeteries, various other military and Department of Interior cemeteries, and for veterans buried in private cemeteries when the grave is marked with a government grave marker.

Reposting from Gary Gamble:

LOOKING FOR INFORMATION. I was contacted by Free Press writer Robert Allen. He is doing a story about WWII veteran Thurmond Carethers of Detroit that was part of the D-Day invasion. Robert thinks Mr. Carethers passed away in the 80's and is looking for anyone that may have known him. Specifically, he is doing a story of the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. He is especially interested in speaking with any veteran who was in South Wales, United Kingdom as they prepared for the invasion. If anyone knows of anyone that call help with his story please contact him at: [email protected] or (313) 223-4537

I would like to ask for donations of gently used kids clothing for Camp Trotter. Last year we had some less fortunate children that showed up with only the clothes on their backs (as that is all that they had). I believe that Richard Rought went to Wallmart and bought them some clothes. If you have any kids gently used clothes (including shoesand swimming suits) please bring them to convention with you. Camp should be a fun time and it isn't fun when the other kids make fun of you because you don't have anything.

Ok, here is what happened. The unclaimed remains for Wayne County are sent to Perry Funeral Home in Detroit. They have a contact at the VA who runs the unclaimed through the database to determine who is a veteran or not. If they are a veteran they are sent to GLN for proper burial. Our WWII veteran is already buried at GLN. Signed Phil Merrow
