LARC is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), community-service organization that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ensuring they can live a quality and engaging life by participating as contributing members of their community. Originally formed in 1956, as a school for children with developmental disabilities (The Lansing School of Special Education), LARC has g

rown to provide services and supports to approximately 100 individuals across the Chicagoland Area. Supports include service facilitation, community day services, choice-driven classroom & recreational activities, job training & placement, and community-integrated living arrangements for 44 individuals in single-family group homes throughout the community. You can purchase 4"x8" bricks in memory or in honor of your loved one to help support LARC's mission while leaving a lasting legacy in our Memorial Garden. What an incredibly detailed history put together by The Lansing Journal! What especially stands out to us are the longstanding community relationships that have helped LARC to become what it is today. Groups like Lansing School District 158 and Lansing Junior Woman's Club among others have been with us every step of the way and have been integral in providing LARC clients with the services and experiences they enjoy today. We have said it before, and we will say it again: We are so blessed to be part of such a supportive and collaborative community! We love Lansing!

Throughout LARC's history, Lansing has always stepped up to fill the gap. The spirit of community that made LARC possible 70 years ago continues to make it thrive today.
