At approximately 8:00 this morning, Lansing Firefighters were called to the 700 block of Walnut St. for the report of smoke and flames coming from a home. Upon arrival on scene, crews found active fire conditions on the Delta side of the multi-story duplex and initiated fire attack. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. The fire remains under investigation.

Responding units included: E41, E42, E48, T41, T46, Medic 411, and BC44.

Congratulations to Kevin Neely on his appointment as Assistant Chief of the Lansing Fire Department.

Assistant Chief Neely brings more than 20 years of service to the City of Lansing. Since beginning his career in April 2004, he has served as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Engineer, Captain, and now Assistant Chief.

We congratulate him on this achievement and wish him continued success as he begins this new chapter of service to the members of the Lansing Fire Department and the residents of our community.

Local 421 looks forward to building the future of the department alongside a leader with strong institutional knowledge and firsthand experience gained through the ranks of the Lansing Fire Department.

Lansing firefighters responded to reports of a basement fire in a single-family residence in the 800 block of Hickory around 6pm.

The first-arriving companies encountered moderate smoke and heat conditions in the basement and quickly began fire attack and a search of the home.

Several pets were safely removed from the residence. Firefighters also provided emergency care to one of the cats, which is expected to make a full recovery.

The fire was contained, and no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Responding units: E41, T41, E48, E49, T46, BC42, M41, and M411.

🚒 Your Lansing Firefighters were absolutely rocking throughout the month of July.

In July 2026, your firefighters responded to 2,719 emergency calls 333 more calls than July 2025, an increase of nearly 15%.

Always ready. Always prepared. But as demand continues to rise, so does the need for increased QUALIFIED staffing to ensure Lansing residents continue receiving the level of service they deserve.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Lansing firefighters responded to the 1600 block of Ottawa Street for a reported structure fire.

Units arrived to find a residential home with heavy fire showing from the first floor on the Alpha, Bravo, and Delta sides, extending into the second story.

Fire crews made an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control. There were no reported injuries.

Responding units: Engine 41, 42, 48, and 46, Truck 41 and 46, Medic 41, Medic 411, and Battalion 41

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
