Michigan Department of Transportation's Paint the Plow Program application for the 2026-2027 school year is open. The Paint the Plow program is open to high schools and high school-level technical schools.

Students are invited to showcase their art skills by designing and painting a snowplow blade based on the theme: See snow? Go slow!

The theme was selected to remind Michiganders that driving safely on winter roads is crucial to preventing crashes and ensuring road user safety. By slowing down through winter weather, drivers help keep Michigan's roads safer for everyone.

Students are encouraged to create a design that incorporates the theme while also incorporating imagery that embodies their school's unique characteristics, school mascot, logo, and school life. They may also include patriotic, state/local, or weather-related motifs.

Submissions must be completed by an authorized school contact (not a student).

Applications due: May 29
Schools notified: early June
Plow Blade Delivery for decoration: September
Plow Blade Pick up: late October

League of Michigan Bicyclists - LMB offers two booklets for bike safety and the rules of the road that are excellent resources for National Bike Month and Bike and Roll to School Day.

What Every Michigan Bicyclist Must Know is designed to help riders safely and enjoyably share the public roads and trails of Michigan with other users. While the publication includes information about some of Michigan's traffic laws, it is not meant to be a legal document or a substitute for the Michigan Vehicle Code.

What Every Young Michigan Bicyclist Must Know was created to help young bicyclists understand how to ride their bicycles legally and safely. The charming publication is filled with colorful illustrations by artist Pavita K. based on original art by Ray Templin. The playful art is coupled with simple text developed by LMB staff and members to help make it fun and easy for children to learn about bicycle safety.

The booklets are also great for cycling event organizers to share with participants.

Both booklets are available for download in English, Spanish, and Arabic. LMB offers up to 25 free print copies for pickup at their office in downtown Lansing. Larger orders and shipping options are also available.

We had a blast joining the very first Bike & Roll to School Day (BR2SD) for Haigh Elementary in Dearborn!

The energy was electric before the bell even rang—students were already buzzing around the entrance on their scooters, waiting for their friends to join the pack. 🛴

A massive shout-out to the Haigh Principal and PE teacher! Their warm welcome and high energy set the perfect tone for the morning as every rider rolled away with:
📜 An official certificate
🎒 A safety kit featuring a bike light, light-up slap bracelet, and a reflective bag tag for backpacks! 🔦✨

As one parent put it: “We bike to school every day, but it’s nice that today gets to celebrate that.”

We couldn't agree more! Thanks to everyone who made this morning such a rolling success. Let's keep those wheels moving! 🚲💨
