Education. Advocacy. Outreach. Here's a quick glimpse of what MTA was up to this May! ✨

More than 200 township officials attended our Planning & Zoning Workshop Series across the state, & MTA leadership ensured township voices were heard while in Washington, D.C., during the National Association of Towns and Townships' Spring Legislative & Advocacy Conference. 💡🏛️

Team members also attended county chapter meetings in Genesee, Marquette & Iron/Dickinson counties, and a Lapeer County Clerks event. Plus, MTA held a joint press conference with the Michigan Municipal League & SEMCOG, in opposition to the housing preemption legislation, & joined township leaders as they attended a committee hearing and visited lawmakers' offices to ask them to oppose the bills. 💬📢

Susan Hartman, Courtland Township (Kent Co.) clerk, was a recipient of this year's "Spirit of MTA" award, receiving three separate nominations from her peers in recognition of her dedication & above-&-beyond service to her community. 👏 Sue is the first clerk to receive the MTA award!

She has been clerk since 2019 & credits her township team, including the deputy clerk & township board members, for helping ensure excellence in service to residents & the community involvement. Do you want your township to be accurately counted in the 2030 census? 👥

An accurate census count matters for your township as Michigan uses the census count to direct funding of state dollars to local governments, including the amount of constitutional revenue sharing available for your township!

Join the U.S. Census Bureau on Wednesday, June 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. to learn more about the 2030 Local Update of Census Addresses operation, used to identify updates to where people live, where to mail census questionnaires, and where to conduct non-response follow-up for a more complete count. đź’»
