After The Storm When disaster strikes it hits the whole community. Together we can rebuild, After The Storm!

After the Storm is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization launched by the Michigan Conference of The United Methodist Church in 2022. We launched in response to a flood in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. That same year, we also responded to a tornado in Ga***rd, working with more than 100 families to rebuild and recover. The Conference quickly became the expert in long-term disaster response and recove

ry in Michigan, trusted by federal, state, and local partners. We felt the best way to sustain this expertise was to form an independent organization. We work with people and organizations of any religious persuasion and all donations are tax deductible. Before that, the Michigan Conference had assisted with long-term disaster recovery projects from Houghton/Hancock to the Great Lakes Bay region, including recovery from a major dam breach in Midland.

A home isn't just a building; it’s decades of memories. After facing severe storm damage, mold, and mounting repair needs, Ms. Boyd wasn't sure she could afford to stay in the home she’s owned since 1987.

Through the Detroit Home Repair Fund and the dedication of our Case Managers, we were able to make her home safe and comfortable again.

Meet the Team! "As a two-time disaster survivor, I use my personal experience to guide others through the pain and confusion of a recovery. My role as a Reviewer not only focuses on compliance, but also provides an opportunity to make a difference in someone's life. My experience working with those affected by Hurricane Ian in Florida, the wildfires in Hawaii, and now with After The Storm here in Michigan, aligns with my desire to help others and shows our survivors that we are in their corner."
