The Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union will always put our communities first and we’re asking our politicians to do the same. Safety matters, staffing matters, YOU matter.

The public sees us roll up. They don’t see the nights we miss at home, the training hours we log, the stress we carry, or the gear we wish we had.

Firefighters are here every day, not just when things go sideways. If you’re tired of justifying the work you do, read this powerful piece from Dave McGlynn on why the fire service should be valued, supported, and resourced: https://ow.ly/upaJ50XLIpz

Muskegon firefighters say they — along with their brothers and sisters in red across the state — face a dangerous issues, but there's something you can do to help.

Michigan HB 5290 of 2025 has been introduced - with bipartisan support - to make staffing a mandatory subject of collective bargaining.

This is a statewide issue. Michigan has half the firefighters per capita of our border states, and 911 calls per responder are 84% above the national average.

This bill would not require municipalities to guarantee certain staffing levels, but would ensure good-faith discussion during contract negotiations.

Please contact your representative and ask her to support this bill.

Local 2258 stands in solodarity with Lansing Fire Local 421. Harassment of any kind cannot be tolerated

📢 Statement from Lansing Professional Firefighters Local 421 📢

Lansing Professional Firefighters Local 421 stands firmly and unapologetically with our member who has filed a lawsuit against Fire Chief Brian Sturdivant for the discriminatory and inappropriate treatment she experienced in the workplace.

The behavior described in the lawsuit is unacceptable, unprofessional, and will not be tolerated. Our members deserve a workplace grounded in dignity, respect, and fairness — not one where they are subjected to invasive, inappropriate, or discriminatory actions from anyone in a leadership position.

The lack of leadership displayed by the Fire Chief should never reflect on the men and women of the Lansing Fire Department, who show up every single day to protect this community. Our members remain committed to the highest standards of professionalism, compassion, and service. They continue to respond, to serve, and to safeguard the citizens of Lansing regardless of the challenges created above them.

To our member: your courage in stepping forward is recognized and supported. Local 421 stands beside you — today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes.

In solidarity and strength,
Lansing Professional Firefighters Local 421
