CACS Head Start is grateful for child care partners such as Taunya Sims and Jus Us Kidz Childcare & Family Services who go above and beyond for our children and families. They hosted a literacy event and an evening of learning, activities, food, and fun for the whole family. CACS Family Services Manager, Sharon Rogers, was the guest reader.

For March, our Home Visiting families and children met at Impression 5 Science Center for the Group Socialization. The children had fun learning about the life cycle of butterflies and other insects. Parents learned about money management.

Thank you to our Home Visitors for putting together another wonderful and interactive play group. What is a favorite play group activity to do with your family?

Winter Olympics might be a distant memory, but the next generation of Olympians might be just getting started at CACS Head Start.

Charlotte classroom 2 teachers set up an obstacle course for the children in the gym. Every child had a chance to run through the course, testing skills such as throwing, various types of movement, and balance. And what a wonderful sound to hear children cheering and clapping for each other!

CACS Head Start

Head Start was created as part of President Lyndon Johnson’s ‘War on Poverty’ agenda to help children from disadvantaged families become as school ready as their more affluent peers. The program is administered by the Office of Head Start which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in Washington, D.C.

Capital Area Community Services, Inc. (CACS) began providing Head Start services in 1965 with an 8 week summer program for preschool children (ages 3 – 5 years). Today, the Head Start program provides school year and full year programming options. In 2000, CACS added Early Head Start services for infants and toddlers (ages birth – 3 years) and pregnant mothers.

Currently, CACS serves 1,761 children in Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, and Shiawassee counties.
