As you know, many families across Michigan have recently been affected by tornadoes and flooding. Up North Live recently shared the story of Mark and Nancy Grubaugh, members of the Petoskey Seventh-day Adventist Church, whose basement flooded with more than eight feet of water last month.
Pastor Henry Escamilla and his wife, Christina, who pastor the Petoskey, Carp Lake, and Cheboygan Churches, shared that God woke up the young man staying with the Grubaughs just in time before the flooding became life-threatening. Their story is just one of thousands of families now working to recover from these devastating storms.
In response, the Petoskey ACS/DR team quickly moved into action to help those affected in their community. Diana Knapp, Petoskey ACS Director, along with her husband Ralph Knapp and a dedicated team of ACS/DR volunteers, partnered with DRAW (Disaster Relief At Work), a Michigan based non-profit and other members of Michigan VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) to distribute clean-up buckets, personal care kits, and kids emergency backpacks door to door, as well as to Roscommon and Emmett County EMS.
There are 83 counties in Michigan and 44 of them have declared a state of emergency this April. Adventist Community Services & Disaster Response volunteers from across the state, including teams from Niles Westside, Village, Edwardsburg, and Battle Creek Churches have been working together to assist communities impacted by tornadoes and flooding throughout Michigan.
We are deeply grateful for the donations that have already helped provide funding and supplies during these resent events, and we invite you to partner with us as we replenish resources and prepare for future needs. 100% of your donations support Disaster Response efforts here in Michigan, helping ensure that critical supplies are ready and available when disasters strike. A key part of effective disaster response is being prepared in advance.
