As you know, many families across Michigan have recently been affected by tornadoes and flooding. Up North Live recently shared the story of Mark and Nancy Grubaugh, members of the Petoskey Seventh-day Adventist Church, whose basement flooded with more than eight feet of water last month.

Pastor Henry Escamilla and his wife, Christina, who pastor the Petoskey, Carp Lake, and Cheboygan Churches, shared that God woke up the young man staying with the Grubaughs just in time before the flooding became life-threatening. Their story is just one of thousands of families now working to recover from these devastating storms.

In response, the Petoskey ACS/DR team quickly moved into action to help those affected in their community. Diana Knapp, Petoskey ACS Director, along with her husband Ralph Knapp and a dedicated team of ACS/DR volunteers, partnered with DRAW (Disaster Relief At Work), a Michigan based non-profit and other members of Michigan VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) to distribute clean-up buckets, personal care kits, and kids emergency backpacks door to door, as well as to Roscommon and Emmett County EMS.

There are 83 counties in Michigan and 44 of them have declared a state of emergency this April. Adventist Community Services & Disaster Response volunteers from across the state, including teams from Niles Westside, Village, Edwardsburg, and Battle Creek Churches have been working together to assist communities impacted by tornadoes and flooding throughout Michigan.

We are deeply grateful for the donations that have already helped provide funding and supplies during these resent events, and we invite you to partner with us as we replenish resources and prepare for future needs. 100% of your donations support Disaster Response efforts here in Michigan, helping ensure that critical supplies are ready and available when disasters strike. A key part of effective disaster response is being prepared in advance. If you would like to help go to https://misda.org/donate/ to find multiple ways to donate and be sure to mark it “Disaster Response- Michigan.”

As we approach Christ’s return, Scripture reminds us that crises will increase. Over the past 50 years, Emergency Management data confirms this reality; tornadoes are more destructive, hurricanes are intensifying, and mass shootings are occurring with alarming frequency.

As you know, many families across Michigan have recently been affected by tornadoes and flooding. There are 83 counties in Michigan and 44 of them declared a state of emergency this April.

This Sabbath, May 9, 2026, the offering focus will be for Disaster Response. Local churches are encouraged to join in collecting a special offering to sustain these ongoing relief efforts.

To Donate Specifically to Disaster Response here in Michigan, give online at at http//:adventistgiving.org/donate/ANFFFF. This week, an amazing team of Michigan ACSDR volunteers served as the “tree crew” for Camp Work Week at Camp AuSable, helping prepare the grounds for the summer season.

Other volunteer crews have been busy painting and updating girls’ cabins, getting them ready for staff and campers who will arrive soon.

We’re grateful for the dedicated camp staff who work alongside us and for the willing volunteers helping make camp ready for an incredible summer!

Michigan ACS Volunteer HighLIGHT: Marshall Prayer Pantry

We are grateful to our Marshall Prayer Pantry volunteers for their love and dedication to serving their community. They work hard packing food boxes, giving personal care items, literature, and offering countless prayers with everyone they meet which we know will bring abundant blessings that may not be fully known until Jesus returns. Thank you for being outstanding volunteers and invaluable members of our ACS team here in Michigan who choose to Arise & SHINE for Jesus!
