This is the dreaded Tree of Heaven in our gardens. Why is it dreaded? It is non-native, fast moving with long sucker roots, AND worse than all it is a beloved plant for the Spotted Lantern Fly another destructive, non-native pest. How did I determine it wasn't a walnut or sumac? The rotten smell in the leaves and stems. Now what? A serious plan of attack of both cutting into it and very bad chemicals because the minute this tree feels threatened it sends our runners to stay alive. Just another day of garden life

Sometimes I get crazy with garden work that I forget to post the beauty. This is a small sample of this summer's Asppire Flower Garden. We are now starting to learn to collect seeds so hopefully some of these will appear next year!

Last night we began our Fall Asppire Garden Group. It was rainy so we stayed in the office. We are focusing on seed saving as we prepare to close the Asppire Flower Garden. Tonight we started with learning how to save seeds from Tomatoes. The group shelled a new variety of bean, Purple Hull Pink Eye Cowpea and we spent time talking about dry beans for soups vs fresh green beans. Then it was thining flats of cool crops that had too many plants growing in the cells. Great team, missing one due to illness
