Incident Report 5/20/26…

Last night at approximately 11:15pm, the Lanoka Harbor Vol. Fire Co. was dispatched for an unknown type fire in the area of Hazelton Ave. While enroute, we were notified by Ocean County Sheriff 911 of the call being upgraded to a residential structure fire.

Upon arrival of the Chief, a working fire was confirmed and was upgraded to our working fire assignment, bringing Forked River Fire Department, Bayville Volunteer Fire Dept (RIT) and Lanoka Harbor EMS to the scene.

Crews immediately started fire suppression and various other related tasks to bring the fire to complete extinguishment. Tragically, 2 dogs had perished in the fire.

Waretown Volunteer Fire Company, initially dispatched for town wide coverage, was brought into the scene to aid in the overhaul process. Pine Beach Volunteer Fire Company No.1 then provided town wide coverage for the duration of the incident.

The scene was turned over to Lacey Township PD, Ocean County Fire Marshal Office & the NJDFS Fire Investigators for the cause and origin investigation.

Our thoughts are with the residents that unfortunately suffered this loss.

Thank you to all of the personnel that assisted to bring this incident to a close!
