As a proud partner of Freetown Innovation Lab, CCIS joined stakeholders, volunteers, community members, and environmental advocates in commemorating World Environment Day 2026 under the global theme, “Inspired by Nature: For Climate. For Our Future.”

The day began with a mobile pop-up community outreach campaign and a beach clean-up exercise, raising awareness on environmental protection, plastic pollution, and climate action while promoting community participation in keeping our beaches clean.

During the official ceremony, CCIS CEO, Lyzianah Emakoua, served as moderator, facilitating discussions and partner statements that highlighted the importance of collective action in advancing environmental sustainability in Sierra Leone.

Participants also engaged in the Practical Waste Recycling Training Village, where they received hands-on training in plastic recycling, fashion from waste, organic waste management, electronic waste recycling, and tire recycling, showcasing innovative ways to transform waste into economic opportunities.

Partnerships such as these demonstrate that meaningful environmental change happens when communities, civil society, the private sector, and government work together toward a common vision of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Sierra Leone.

Today, the Center for Community Impact and Sustainability (CCIS) successfully hosted its Menstrual Health and Hygiene Community Outreach Program in Goderich, bringing together women, adolescent girls, community leaders, and stakeholders for meaningful conversations on menstrual health, reproductive health, WASH, dignity, and wellbeing.

The outreach provided a safe space to break the silence around menstruation, challenge harmful myths and stigma, promote proper hygiene practices, and empower participants with knowledge to make informed health decisions. As part of the program, sanitary pads and hygiene materials were distributed to support vulnerable girls and women in the community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the CEO of A Certain Woman, representatives from the Ministry of Health, and the Goderich Community Health Clinic for their valuable contributions and commitment to advancing the health and wellbeing of women and girls in our communities. Special thanks to the Revival Temple Evangelical Ministries for hosting us.

At CCIS, we believe that no girl should miss opportunities, education, or confidence because of her period. Menstrual health is a matter of dignity, health, education, and gender equality, and together we can build communities where every girl can manage her menstruation safely, confidently, and without shame.

Our CEO, Ms. Lyzianah Emakoua, had the pleasure of serving as a Guest Speaker during Career Week at Excel Academy in Freetown, where she engaged with the SS3 pupils during an interactive career talk session.

During the session, she encouraged students to dream beyond limitations, believe in their potential, and begin preparing intentionally for their future careers. The discussion explored diverse career pathways ranging from international development, diplomacy, leadership, public service, entrepreneurship, and climate change advocacy, while emphasizing the importance of education, discipline, confidence, and purpose.

The session was highly interactive, inspiring students to think critically about their aspirations and the impact they can make in society. Her engagement reflected the importance of exposing young people to leadership, global opportunities, and emerging career fields at an early stage.

Special appreciation to Principal Mrs. King for the invitation and warm reception. It was truly a meaningful opportunity to connect with and inspire the next generation of leaders.
