The District of Columbia Metro Cricket Organization (DCMCO): A Legacy of Sports, Education, and Community Giving
Founded in June 1997, the District of Columbia Metro Cricket Organization (DCMCO) began as a volunteer-run initiative with a primary focus on cricket. However, by 2003, our vision expanded beyond sports to encompass education and charitable outreach, driven by our members’ deep commitme
nt to serving the community. Strengthening Our Outreach & Impact
As we broadened our focus, we formalized several outreach programs that had already been making a difference for years. Between 2001 and 2007, we awarded scholarships totaling approximately US $5,000 annually to students at the University of Guyana. As part of their scholarship, recipients were required to tutor secondary school students—one of whom, the Principal of Tutorial High School, proudly reported that math scores improved across all examinations thanks to this initiative. Our commitment to education and community service extended beyond Guyana:
📌 St. Michael’s R.C. School in Grenada, W.I. received US $1,900 in 2008 and US $600 in 2009 to support student learning.
📌 In 2008, Malteenoes Sports Club in Guyana received a US $1,000 donation to foster youth development through sports.
📌 Two students from our local community were granted partial scholarships, allowing them to participate in enriching educational and cultural programs in Italy and Australia this past summer.
📌 In 2009, we provided funding to Miriam’s Kitchen and Shepherd’s Table, helping them continue their vital outreach programs for those in need. Major Contributions & Disaster Relief
Our largest humanitarian effort came in 2005, when we donated seven barrels filled with food, clothing, and school supplies valued at over US $20,000 to aid flood relief efforts in Guyana. Additionally, in 2006, we provided US $10,000 worth of medical supplies, further supporting the Guyanese community during a critical time. Our Mission: Making a Lasting Impact
