There’s no better measure of a partnership than this. Here’s what Shariah at I Support the Girls shared about our volunteer crew:

“Our Opportunities Inc volunteers have made a world of difference to our I Support the Girls operations. The team is full of hardworking, thoughtful individuals who are keen on learning. Over the course of our time together they have become reliable and efficient members of our team who also bring positivity and joy to the warehouse. We are so happy to have their continued support, and can’t wait to watch them continue to grow!”

We could not be prouder of our volunteers or of this partnership. 👏

Welcoming Our Newest Board Member!

We are excited to welcome Willie Okobokekeimei to the Opportunities, Inc. Board of Directors—and even more excited that he brings a perspective that is essential to our mission: the voice and lived experience of the people we support.

As Chair of our Prince George’s County Self-Advocacy Group, he has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to making sure people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. In his new role on the Board, he will help bring that perspective directly to organizational leadership and governance.

We are proud to have self-advocacy represented at the Board table and look forward to the insight, leadership, and lived experience he will bring to our work. Nothing about us without us!

🍂 Harvesting Hope. Growing Opportunity.

This fall, you can help create meaningful experiences that last well beyond the season.

Through the Opportunities Inc. Community Life Engagement (CLE) Fund, the people we support have opportunities to get out into their communities, try new things, build friendships, develop new skills, and experience a greater sense of independence and belonging.

Your gift can help make experiences like these possible by supporting:

🍁 Activity fees for classes, workshops, and community events
🍁 Transportation to help people access opportunities safely
🍁 Staff support that makes meaningful participation possible

This season, help us harvest hope and grow more opportunities for the people we support. 💙

👉 Make a gift to the CLE Fund: https://form-renderer-app.donorperfect.io/give/opportunities-inc/2026-fall-donation-form

Every gift—no matter the size—helps open the door to more choice, connection, independence, and community.

Thank you for helping make life’s little moments possible for everyone.

We were especially excited to see our own Roxana “Roxy” Rodriguez recognized with an award!

Roxy brings creativity, patience, and enthusiasm to her work, adapting to whatever the day brings and finding thoughtful ways to help people try new things, work through challenges, and make their days a little brighter.

To all of our DSPs: thank you. The work you do matters, and we hope you know just how much you are valued and appreciated!

Sometimes independence starts with one simple tool. 💡

During our visit to the Maryland Assistive Technology Program, one of the people we support tried an adapted nail trimmer with a built-in magnifier—and discovered a new way to complete an everyday task more independently. ✂️

This is Technology First in action: starting with what someone wants to do, exploring what might help, and giving them the opportunity to try it for themselves.

Because assistive technology isn’t about the technology.
It’s about what becomes possible. 💙

Thank you to James Whitney and the Maryland Department of Disabilities Assistive Technology Program for giving us the opportunity to explore, learn, and try!

Technology First in Action! 💡
Opportunities Inc. was proud to participate in the DDA Technology First Annual Celebration, celebrating Maryland’s continued commitment to making technology a standard option for people with disabilities.

The following day, we continued the learning by visiting the Maryland Assistive Technology Program, where people we support had the opportunity to explore, learn about, and—most importantly—try out assistive technologies for themselves.

The results were immediate and meaningful:

✂️ One participant discovered an adapted nail trimmer with a built-in magnifier that will allow him to cut his own nails more independently.

💬 Another participant brought home a communication device to try, giving her an opportunity to explore how technology can help her communicate with others and participate more fully in her community.

These are powerful reminders that assistive technology isn't about the technology itself—it's about what technology makes possible.

At Opportunities, Inc., we believe people should have access to the tools and supports that help them make choices, build independence, communicate, and live the lives they want. Learn more at https://opportunities-inc.com/assistive-technology-developmental-disabilities-maryland/

Technology First means asking: “What could technology make possible?”—and then giving people the opportunity to find out.

Thanks to James Whitney at Maryland Department of Disabilities Assistive Technology Program for hosting us!

💙 We’re Celebrating Our DSPs!

This week (Sept 14–18), Opportunities Inc. we are celebrating Direct Support Professional Recognition Week and the incredible DSPs who make a difference every day!

Throughout the week, we’ll be showing our appreciation for the dedicated team members who help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities make choices, build independence, explore their communities, pursue their goals, and live lives of their own choosing.

We have some fun things planned throughout the week, including wrapping up our celebration with a special Backyard Bash on Friday! 🎉

And we want you to help us celebrate!

Has a DSP made a difference in your life or the life of someone you love? Maybe you have a favorite memory, a story that made you smile, or simply a team member who deserves to hear “thank you.”

💙 Celebrating Our Direct Support Professionals!
It’s Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, and we’re celebrating the incredible DSPs who make a difference every day at Opportunities, Inc.!

Our Direct Support Professionals do so much more than provide support. They help people pursue their goals, build independence, make meaningful choices, explore their communities, develop relationships, and experience new opportunities.

This week, we’ll be showing our appreciation for our DSPs in some special ways—including coming together for a Backyard Bash to celebrate the people behind this important work.
You can help us celebrate, too!

Has a DSP created a favorite memory with you or your loved one? Is there someone who always makes you smile, encourages you to try something new, or simply deserves to hear “thank you”?

💙 Share your favorite moment or send a compliment to a member of our team using our Share Your Feedback form. Your messages help us recognize the people who make a difference and give our DSPs a chance to hear directly from the people and families whose lives they touch.

Every Voice Matters. Every Voice Has Power. 💙
At Opportunities, Inc., self-advocacy is about more than speaking up. It’s about having the confidence to make choices, pursue your goals, understand your rights, and take an active role in your community.

Through our Self-Advocacy Groups, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are coming together to share experiences, build leadership skills, explore topics that affect their everyday lives, and discover new ways to make their voices heard.

And advocacy doesn’t stop at the meeting room. We’re working to create opportunities for participants to connect with community leaders, attend local advocacy events, share their experiences, and become even more involved in the decisions that shape their communities.

💙 When every voice is heard, everyone benefits.
