On National Creativity Day, we want to acknowledge Wyoming Catholic College for taking learning beyond the classroom.

Students study the liberal arts while heading into the wilderness, riding horseback, and taking on real challenges.

Bill Sniffin, legendary Wyomingite and Chairman of the Wyoming Catholic College Board of Directors, wrote about last Monday's Commencement in his latest column: “Lander saw something Monday you just don’t see much anywhere in America: graduates in full regalia, outside in a snowstorm, having a full-blown snowball fight. The 43 seniors at Wyoming Catholic College had their formal photos taken inside at the community center. Then somebody got the bright idea to head outside for a portrait in eight inches of heavy, wet snow. That’s when things turned. As soon as the picture was taken, the snowballs started flying. It didn’t take long before it was a full-scale melee. One of those moments nobody there will ever forget.”

Pictures and video from Monday’s Commencement, rendered even more memorable than usual by the unexpected snowstorm (and entirely predictable snowball fight that broke out at the end).

“The snowfall...became an expression of what the school, and by extension, the best of Catholic life, is about: Accepting the gift of life and recognizing the grace of each moment – and going with it, in joy.”

Wyoming's always full of surprises, so we probably shouldn't be too surprised at the spring snowstorm that decided to drop in on Graduation this morning. Nor are we particularly surprised that the Class of 2026 still wanted to take a group picture outside despite the snow. ...and least surprising of all? The snowball fight that broke out once the formal picture was done. We're so proud of you, Class of 2026, and we'll miss you! (More pictures to follow over the next few days, but these were too much fun not to share!)

Last night’s Senior Dinner is the first of the College’s celebrations in honor of this year’s graduating class. It is also the night where each of the forty-three members of the class receive their coveted black Stetson. Those cowboy hats sure look good on you, Class of 2026!!
