Fremont County League of Women Voters

Fremont County League of Women Voters LWVFC is a non-partisan organization dedicated to voter education. We encourage registrations, absentee ballots and a free and open election process.

The League of Women Voters of Fremont County does not support or endorse ANY candidate running for office. We make available the information that is provided to us by the candidates and share them with the public. We also support the 2020 Census, which provides communities with the assets and funds to maintain healthy communities.

This past Sunday, friends, family, colleagues, and community members gathered to celebrate the life of Linda Barton.

It was wonderful seeing many members of the the League of Women Voters of Fremont County and the League of Women Voters of Wyoming. LWVFC Founding Member Nancy Pieropan and State Senator Cale Case shared heartfelt memories of Linda's extraordinary ability to bring people together around a common purpose. Whether advocating for voters, supporting young people, or strengthening community connections. Linda believed that lasting change happens when people show up, listen, and work together.

As many have noted in recent tributes, Linda was truly a force for good. She dedicated herself to building stronger communities and expanding opportunities for others. We miss her deeply. We are grateful for her vision, her determination, and the example she set for all of us.

The League of Women Voters of Fremont County will continue the work she helped begin to empower voters, defend democracy, and create opportunities for civic engagement throughout Fremont County and Wyoming.

Lander resident, 76, died May 24, remembered for her warmth, elan and decades of community work in the state.

The Wyoming Primary Election is coming up on August 18, and the League of Women Voters of Fremont County is excited to help build awareness and enthusiasm for civic participation.

Thanks to the Wyoming Women's Foundation, we have five election signs available for Fremont County voters. They're a fun way to celebrate the freedom to vote, encourage informed and active participation, and remind our community that every voice matters.

Want a sign? Send us a message and we'll help get one to you (while supplies last).

Together, we can help empower voters and strengthen our democracy—one conversation, one voter, and one election at a time.

The Wyoming Enrichment Network shared this statement about Linda and included thoughtful quotes from her colleagues. We second the sentiments of her friend and colleague Craig Williams: "The world is a little dimmer without Linda’s bright light."

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Linda Barton, founder of the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance.

“The world is a little dimmer without Linda’s bright light,” says WYEN Advisory Board Chair Craig Williams. “Her passion for children, working families, and social justice built a strong foundation for the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance and has made our state a better place. Our time together with the Afterschool Network in and out of Wyoming are some of my fondest memories. I will miss Linda’s wisdom, her sense of humor, and her sage advice, as will many others. Her memory is a blessing to me and all who knew her.”

Alongside a core team of supporters, Linda founded WYAA in 2007 with a vision to strengthen and support out-of-school time programs across Wyoming. Under her leadership, WYAA became a Priority Fund of the Wyoming Community Foundation and the 32nd Statewide Afterschool Network in the nation supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Linda Barton following an automobile accident. Linda was the Founder and Chair of the League of Women Voters of Fremont County and President of the League of Women Voters of Wyoming. Her vision, determination, and deep love for community built a strong foundation for civic engagement and voter empowerment. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who worked alongside her.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 7 at 12:00pm at the Lander Community and Convention Center. As we grieve this tremendous loss, LWVFC remains committed to continuing the important work Linda believed in so deeply. During this time, we would ask anyone who would like to help support LWVFC to reach out.

Thanks to the Wyoming Women's Foundation for helping to spread the word about election season dates!

Many Wyoming elections are decided in the Primary.

That means key decisions about leadership and policy often happen months before the general election.

If you want a voice in those decisions, the Primary matters.

🗳️ August 18 is your opportunity to participate.

“Hope is like the sun. If you only believe in it when you see it, you’ll never make it through the night.” — Princess Leia

This Star Wars Day, let Princess Leia inspire you to lead with hope and action. Voting is how we shape the future we want to see, even when change feels far away. It’s one of the most powerful ways to stand up for your community and be part of something bigger than yourself.

Important Reminder: May 13th is the deadline to change your party affiliation if you want to participate in Wyoming’s primary election.

Stay hopeful, stay engaged, and may the Force (of democracy) be with you.

May is a big month for democracy in Wyoming—and your voice is part of the story.

May 13 is the deadline to change your party affiliation if you want to participate in a primary election, and May 29 marks the final day for candidates to file for office. These aren’t just dates—they’re the building blocks of representation. In Wyoming’s closed primary system, your party choice helps determine which candidates appear on your ballot , and candidate filing shapes who steps up to lead our communities .

Whether you’re casting a vote or considering a run for office, this is your moment to engage. Representation starts with participation. Mark your calendar, make a plan, and be part of what comes next.
