Resharing this again because.. well... have you seen it out there?!
We've been waiting all winter for this post...
🌨️❄️THE WAY YOU SHOVEL SNOW MATTERS!❄️🌨️
Snow shoveling is considered a strenuous aerobic exercise similar to running and strength training.
In combination with the cold winter air that constricts blood vessels in your body, these factors can lead to heart attack in those who have known heart disease, AND in those who don't, according to the American Heart Association.
Well.. the snow still needs shoveled, what should we do?
Avoid lifting snow, instead push & sweep
👉If you must lift the snow, do so in small bits rather than an entire shovel full at once.
🧤Dress for the occasion- this means layers and gloves, and scarves/balaclava for your face.
❤️Know the symptoms of a heart attack: Chest or upper abdomen pain or pressure, jaw neck or back pain, shortness of breath, sweating, extreme fatigue, fainting- immediately go to the EMERGENCY ROOM if you experience these symptoms.
🚫If you have history of heart complications or heart disease- PLEASE reach out to someone in our community for help, or if you rent- let your landlord know that you cannot shovel the snow yourself.
