We are in need of some more feral cat food donations. There are a few locations with feral cats that have seen their caretakers displaced or deceased and members of the community have stepped up to see that these cats are fed.
Why would we feed feral cats? These cats have been through our Sterile Feral program and will no longer reproduce. We promote consistent feeding at a fixed site as a core part of a "managed colony" practice. It's a free-roaming-control tool. If a colony has a reliable food source, cats are less likely to roam looking for food, which helps keep the colony stable and contained to one location.
Another benefit includes the fact that colonies with a stable food source tend to defend that territory from new, unsterilized cats wandering in so a fed, sterilized colony can act as a barrier against new cats moving in and starting to breed.
