I am sorely suffering from brain fog and must apologize to my fellow clubmembers. I had all of the information laid out and then neglected to actually make the post about my attendance as club president to the GFWC-FL Annual Convention that took place in May in Orlando.
I am so proud of the work done by our club, our District, our State, and of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) around the world.
Our state convention is a time to celebrate with the GFWC clubwomen from all across the state of Florida. We were also honored to have the GFWC International President Suellen Brazil join us from the national Headquarters in DC.
Speakers, programs, activities and awards were a part of the convention throughout the weekend. Through attendance at these state meetings I have been connected to women from Lake Placid, Temple Terrace, Plant City, Bradenton, Ruskin, and many other locations outside and within the district our club is in. (District 8 is GREAT!)
A great time was had, lots of fun projects ideas shared, lots of chicken eaten, and recognition presented, for all of the volunter hours spent and funds donated by clubwomen across our state.
Our club received the following awards, given by club size groupings, for work in the various community service programs, state projects, and our GFWC national project which is Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention:
Fourth Place - Arts & Culture
Second place - Director’s Project-Building Families; Education & Libraries; Civic Engagement & Outreach; GFWC Signature Program-Domestic Violence; Environment; and Health & Wellness
FIRST PLACE - Membership; Fundraising & Development; Communication & Public Relations; Leadership
Special Recognition - Prospective Member Recruitment via Networking Groups; and Honor Score of 149 points; Certificate for Robyn Lindsey as our nominee for Junior Volunteer of the Year.
We also were award $800 for our grant application from the GFWC Florida One Voice for Children Fund to be used to fill the boxes for our project for the Small But Mighty Heroes nonprofit for children being treated for cancer and other life threatening illnesses. This grant, along with an additional sponsorship we received, will allow us to fill 5 Hero boxes for ill children, and 2 sibling boxes with items to help them through their treatments.
We are a small but very determined group of women doing our part to help in Pasco County. We welcome any women interested in joining us to leave a comment and we can be in touch about our next monthly meeting.
Submitted by proud GFWC cheerleader - Dawn Behen, Club president, and yes I actually do have GFWC pom poms now. lol
