Nathaniel Thayer Memorial Park

Nathaniel Thayer Memorial Park Dedicated to the revitalization of Lancaster's Nathaniel Thayer Memorial Park. www.thayerfield.org

Lancaster’s Thayer Memorial Park is a 22 acre plot of town-owned land directly behind the Town Green and Thayer Memorial Library, in what is quite literally, Lancaster’s back yard. Lancaster is fortunate to have such an unusual asset in the heart of our town, a credit to Pauline R. Thayer who gifted the land just prior to her death in 1934 “to be used by said town for the purpose of providing a pr

oper and adequate recreation and playground center for the inhabitants of the Town of Lancaster”. Thayer Memorial Park currently consists of open fields, wooded areas, ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and wooded areas. Unfortunately, these facilities have fallen into disrepair and, without immediate attention, will continue to deteriorate and become unusable. The Thayer Memorial Park Committee is a committed and motivated group of volunteers who see incredible potential for this property and is leading the efforts to revitalize it. Every town needs public parks to play, relax, hold events, and meet up to maintain a sense of community and small town identity. We developed a project scope based directly on the results of extensive resident surveys conducted over a three year period. The results represent a balanced combination of active and passive recreation so Thayer Memorial Park will be enjoyed by Lancaster residents for many years to come.
