CNSA- Antelope Valley College Chapter

CNSA- Antelope Valley College Chapter California Nursing Students' Association, Antelope Valley College Chapter We enhance members’ communication and public speaking skills.

Core Values

Leadership
We provide members with opportunities for mentorship and collaboration with nurse leaders. We prepare members for leadership roles and opportunities in both Professional and Specialty Associations; in the workplace and the community. We encourage members to develop independence, follow-through and delegation skills. We provide opportunities for members to network with peers

, future nurse leaders and current nurse leaders at the
national, state, school and community level. Education
We acknowledge, the importance educating students in safety, competence and technology. We encourage involvement with faculty by keeping the professional community aware of students’ needs. We educate students through breakout sessions on topics not in curriculum. We recognize nursing as an evolving profession and we encourage learning through the span of the nurse’s career. Advocacy and Activism
We believe that student nurses should be acculturated into the role of patient advocate; as such we encourage student activism. We generate greater appreciation in members regarding advocacy and activism by educating them about the finite quality of healthcare resources and the importance of equitable distributor of those resources. We go to extraordinary lengths to involve our members in the politics of healthcare, providing them with access to information, as well as instruction from some of the most prominent nurse leaders in the nation. We strive to create an environment of learning and involvement among our members at a local, statewide, national, and international level. Our success is dependent upon the collective energy and intelligence of all our members and the auspices of those that guide CNSA. Professionalism
We promote the professional and positive image of nursing in all media relations, public presentations, and publications. We uphold the image and standards of nursing practice in all activities, according to the Code of Ethical Student Conduct, and the NSNA Code of Professional Conduct and NSNA Code of Academic and Clinical Conduct. We consult and collaborate with the Association of California Nurse Leaders and the American Nurses Association \California. We provide resources that allow students to research and follow through on advancing their education. We recognize the importance of communication with members by viewing all opinions as valid and relevant, and by responding in a timely manner. Stewardship
We are committed to acting as stewards of CNSA’s resources. We strive to maintain financial stability while promoting growth of the organization as a whole through active research of responsible financial opportunities, careful conservation of current resources when appropriate, and collaboration as a board of directors in financial decisions for CNSA. We foster the growth of our membership by enhancing the nursing school experience for the individual member through active participation in the constituency. We honor our responsibility as members by maintaining a viable organization and a vital voice in the community of nursing students with proactive involvement in the salient issues faced by nursing students.

Hi! My name is Noel and its pronounced like the Christmas song. Every time it plays, I feel so regal! I am currently a 3rd semester student at Antelope Valley College and am the Co-President of CNSA. I joined CNSA about at the tail end of my first semester and have enjoyed it ever since! I’m currently working part time as a tire technician and also do some minor mechanical work. If you need to replace your tires or brakes, I’m your guy! I like swimming and hiking. My favorite hobby is playing guitar. I believe that music has the power to connect us to ourselves and each other. CNSA at Antelope Valley College is a significant club that will only continue to grow!

Thanks everyone for helping out with practice practicum! Hope you had fun! You will be great nurses! Best wishes!💕

Hi everyone! I'm Eric the historian/social media director for CNSA! I'm in 4th semester with pediatric nursing. I joined in first semester and have been a part of the club ever since. I've chaired and volunteered for events like practice practicum, meet and greet, pinning, and be the match. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, running and swimming! CNSA is a great way to connect with other students! Also, CNSA helps with mentors who can encourage and make a positive impact in your nursing journey. My plans in the future are to study for my RN to BSN bridge program, and work in emergency or critical care. Then study for an FNP program. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help! See you around!💙

"Hello! I’m Mikhael Angelus Milano, but you can call me Mikee, CNSA-AVC Director of Community Health! I’m a 4th Semester student and currently doing my Pediatrics rotation. I am also the student worker at our Nursing Lab Facility and I really enjoy supporting and sharing knowledge to students like myself, especially to incoming Freshman of the RN Program. I joined CNSA for that very reason, because I think this organization helps a lot of students of all levels to feel a bit more comfortable and at ease with the well-known demands and competitiveness of the Nursing program. As a student, I enjoy reading medical-related books, journals and other materials. In 10 years, I see myself as a Medical Doctor... yes a MD! I believe that Patient Care should not have any discrimination whether you are a nurse, a doctor or a caregiver. It is indeed two different disciplines of care, but wouldn’t it be cool to have the heart of a nurse and the medical expertise of a doctor taking care of a patient? :) I am also a strong believer that education is the greatest wealth a person can have and one should not stop learning and with enough perseverance and a good heart we will have all that we need to succeed in life."

Introducing our CNSA treasurer: "My name is Kimberly Valdivia and I am currently an LVN working towards my RN. My hope is to graduate in December 2020 and then to go on and achieve my BSN and hopefully my NP. I have recently joined the CNSA and been asked to join as CNSA Treasurer. We have been asked to write a bio about ourselves and for some reason this has been the hardest for me. So here it goes. I am a wife, mother, coach, LVN, and nursing student. I have been married for 5 years, and have four boys ranging from the teenage years to the toddler years. I have been a LVN for over 9 years but I have been part of the medical field for 15 years. I started as a Medical Assistant, then became a LVN, and now I am working towards being an RN. I also have a Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration. I thought I would like working behind the scenes in the management area but I found that I really love working at the bedside. I have been working more than 8 years in the Maternal Child Unit in Bakersfield. I started in the Nursery and now work in the Postpartum Unit and sometimes in the Management side of things. I am looking forward to learning different specialities and finding out where I belong in the nursing world. In my spare time I love just spending time with my husband and my children, relaxing and reading, and chilling with friends. I also have been coaching volleyball at the local middle school for over 6 years now which is another passion of mine. I figure I am getting too old to play volleyball, so those that do not play…teach. I look forward to meeting each and everyone of you. Thank you for letting me be part of a great opportunity."

"Hi everyone! My name is Cora and I am one of the co-presidents of CNSA along with Noel Navarette. I bridged over from the LVN- RN program during Summer 2019 and am currently in 4th semester. I signed up with CNSA during Meet and Greet and it has been by far one of the best decisions I’ve made. CNSA has introduced me to amazing faculty members as well as students outside my cohort from different semesters, blessed me with an amazing mentor who was our former CNSA co-president Amanda Vargas, broadened my interpersonal/leadership skills, and allowed me to meet and network with amazing companies and individuals within our community. Since joining CNSA I have volunteered at events such as World Heart day, AV Heart and Stroke Pop-Up walk, Together for Hope Cancer walk (where I walked for my best friend Joyce), and Meet and Greet. My vision for AVC’s CNSA is to encourage both generic and LVN students to join and be more involved within our community and to prove to ourselves that we can do more while in nursing school, even when it seems impossible. On a side note, I spend my free time volunteering at Palmdale Parks and Rec where I coach VB for 13-16’s with my husband, I enjoy spending time with family and our bulldog Cali, catching up with friends, creating DIY projects, eating, shopping at TJ Maxx and genuinely helping others. After I pass the NCLEX, I will continue my education to obtain both my BSN, MSN and possibly FNP. During that time I am hopeful that I will find my calling in nursing whether it be in pediatric oncology, L&D, or possibly a management position. Whatever God has planned for me, I know he will put me down a path of success and where I can truly put my knowledge and skills to help others. To all future nursing students, always remember that whatever you put into this program, is what you will take away from it. Work hard, study hard and always do your best, even when it seems like you just want to give up. Just keep pushing... keep going... remind yourself you can do It... because YOU WILL DO IT" 💉💊
