High Five the Movement "Safe and Accessible Spaces for POC"

High Five the Movement "Safe and Accessible Spaces for POC" A teaching movement The organization began in response to people of color being blatantly profiled at local businesses in and around the area.

Founded by Gracie Berry of Girlrillavintage the Blog, a cisgender, q***r woman of color, advocate, activist, performance and visual artist, professional dancer, writer, and storyteller. Also to show how racial profiling intersects gender, ability, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status that could cause one to be profiled. High Five the Movement is a teaching movement. The organizations, "sha

me free zone", helps to facilitate deliberate, honest dialogues, and encounters that promote cultural diversity and acceptance. We offer safe and interactive ways for people to address the problematic effects of profiling by sharing and learning together through art, talks, workshops, skill shares, retreats, performances, documentaries, improvisations, lectures, parties, celebrations, and social media.

“My heritage influences not just who I am, but also how I express myself creatively and connect with my ancestors, solidifying my bond to the continent.”

I must admit that when Breana, a writer for the Black-owned travel site World Footprints, first messaged me on Instagram, I felt a little hesitant. But then she mentioned seeing my post from a few years ago about taking the African Ancestry test and wanted to know more about my experience, which changed my perspective. She was working on an article about DNA ancestry tests aimed at uncovering ancestral homelands, which really inspired me. Appreciative for being given another platform to share my thoughts and be recognized. My story is featured alongside another person who found out about their Italian roots, so definitely check it out!

When Allen Bartimioli planned a trip to his ancestors’ homeland, he never imagined he would find himself face-to-face with a cousin he didn’t know he had. Like many Americans, the Arizona pastor and his wife, Ellen, had done some genealogical research and had taken a 23andMe DNA test. Allen’s ...

In 1963, the famous photographer Richard Avedon took a pic of William Casby who was, born in 1857. Y’all he was 106 years old at the time! In his hands, he was holding his great-great-granddaughter, Cherri Stamps-McCray.
Casby died in 1970, at the age of 113. Just a reminder that (as James Baldwin once wrote) the “History is not the past. It is the present. We are our history.” This is also Another reminder that (as my Nana said) Black Don’t Neva Eva Crack 😊

I stumbled across an old business card of when my brother worked as a massage therapist. He called his business Hart&Hand. How fitting because my brother had the most beautiful hands to me. He was not only the person I loved most in the universe, but his hands held so many stories in them that I cherish. Enjoy season 2 ep 7. AseO!

Happy solar return to my brother Davids on what would've been his 42nd birthday! Oh, how time flies and heals all at the same time. While cleaning on Friday I stumbled across an old business card of when he worked as a massage therapist. I added a small part at the end about why finding the massage....

I wrote, "Wataaamelon”, for George Floyd after his murder in 2020 to shift the climactic energy, the trauma, to uplift him, his family and those in the Afrikan Diaspora. "Wataaamelon”, is a metaphor I use to symbolize Black wealth. My poem doesn’t focus on racist tropes or negative stereotypes but instead is a celebration Black life.

*Shout out to Darcey Mills and Kimyatta Williams for capturing the videos you see here!
