Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) projects manage stormwater runoff by encouraging natural absorption of rainwater. Examples of GSI project include green roofs, permeable pavement, and rain gardens!

Community Leaders, Grassroots Organizations, Experts, and Student Leaders will gather on Saturday October 17th from 10am-3pm at Monaca United Methodist Church. PA IPL staff will be present and tabling at this event!

We are excited to table at the Lewisburg Diversity Celebration! We will be sharing information about our programs and the importance of interfaith community building.
We'll also have no-cost native trees to giveaway for planting in pink (eligible) zones (see our eligibility map here; https://arcg.is/0yjznS3). You can reserve pick up for trees in advance, get help with the eligibility, or find out what's available by reaching out at [email protected]. We will also be handing out felted "love warrior" hearts generously shared by one of our network's own- available until we run out. See you there!

We are honored to host our three panelists, speaking from different faith traditions. Rabbi Fred Scherlinder Dobb, D.Min., is Rabbi Emeritus of Adat Shalom Reconstructionist Congregation, the Director of Climate Partnerships and Advocacy at Adamah, and was a part of the team that co-founded Sacred Grounds in 2012. RuthAnn Purchase James is a representative from the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware and is a current participant in the Delaware Watershed Sacred Grounds program. Myngju is the head monk and teacher at the Detroit Zen Center. With a blue-collar Zen approach – in the spirit of early Zen communities – she & fellow students cook, clean, garden, build, & do other manual work to support themselves & the Center.

PA IPL staff and volunteers had a blast tabling at the TREE-mendous day at the Zoo in Philadelphia last month! Shout out to the Tree Philly Coalition for bringing everyone together around trees. We read books about trees to the kiddos who stopped by, had folks give gratitudes to the trees and explore tree anatomy! Join us on Thursday, November 12th from 6pm-7:30pm for Canopy Calling: Tree Equity from the Roots Up!

This gathering is a call across faiths and traditions to continue the work of tree equity, not as a single act, but as an ongoing commitment. We will answer the ways our individual faiths call us to be stewards of the Earth, honor the wisdom of the Indigenous people of this land, and learn to be good neighbors in the way the trees have always been to us.

The evening will feature storytelling, education, and information sharing; a space to learn together and deepen our roots. We will be joined by ​Derrick Weston, Director of Theological Education and Formation​/Acting Executive Director at Creation Justice Ministries, and Cassandra Carmichael, Executive Director for the National Religious Partnership for the Environment

This event is presented by PA IPL, Creation Justice Ministries, and American Forests. Thanks so much to the National Religious Partnership for the Environment, Blessed Tomorrow Faith in Place, and Georgia Interfaith Power & Light for co-sponsoring this event. Week Without Driving illustrates the challenges non-drivers face and calls for improvements to our sidewalks, roads, and transportation system as a whole. Last Saturday, the Sacred Grounds team worked in both Philadelphia and Wilmington to get our first two gardens of the season planted! We hosted a planting workshop at Mt. Salem UMC and volunteered at Bartrams Garden to plant native pollinators and a Swamp White Oak tree with Ollin Yoliztli Calmecac!

It’s officially planting season! We’re hosting our first tree distribution in a couple of days and we need volunteers! We’re distributing 10,000 trees across Pennsylvania; RSVP to volunteer to make this possible here; https://form-usa.keela.co/f26-distro-site-volunteer-signup (Details about timing and location for each site are in the form)

We will need support unloading trees, sorting and tagging them with the species name, delivering trees to planters who can’t pick them up, supporting community plantings, and more. If you’re interested in volunteering this season or staying informed about potential future opportunities, complete the interest form!
