Always a special day when we can make our annual gift to Matt’s scholarship endowment. Thanks to all who have supported the Matt Blackwell Foundation thru the years and made it possible for our son’s name to live on forever at this special place.

A hot, humid day greeted a field of 92 golfers for the 21st Annual Matt Blackwell Foundation Golf Tournament, held August 10th at the Lancaster Golf Club. The tournament was originally scheduled for May, but rain forced cancellation of play.

This year’s winning foursome was Neil Couch, Gregg Gause, Mike Roddey, and Tim Beckham as they carded a score of 50.1. Second place honors went to the team of Trevor Hammond, Patrick Marshall, Derek Parker, and David Small with Matthew Sweatt, Tanner Sweatt, Garrett Sweatt, and Braden Small finishing a close third.

Closest to the pin winners were Cam McIsaac ( #4), McCuen Elmore ( #7 and #15), and Ridge Alford ( #13). Longest drive honors went to Tyler Young (Men’s), Katherine Jones (Women’s) and Don Baxley (Senior’s). Richard Deese took home the “On the Mark” Drive prize.

A big “Thank You” to the staff at Lancaster Golf Club, our wonderful volunteers, dedicated sponsors, and loyal players for making this year’s tournament another big success.

We were blessed earlier this week to meet and have lunch with DJ Langton, our newest recipient of the Matt Blackwell Foundation Endowment Scholarship at Clemson University. DJ is quite an impressive young man and we are so proud to have him represent Matt’s foundation. We look forward to following his journey these next four years and beyond. Clemson made another great selection.

Earlier this week, Jan and I met with Mark Ostapenko, Senior Director of Development at Clemson University. Mark took the two of us on an awesome tour of the new and amazing, state of the art, Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business. At the end of our time together we presented Mark with another contribution towards the Matt Blackwell Foundation Scholarship Endowment. What a blessing it is to have Matt’s name forever connected to the school he loved so dearly, while at the same time assisting students in fulfilling their dreams of a college education. We can never say thank you enough to all of you who have supported us these past twenty years. The programs and projects we’ve done to help the youth in our community and this endowment would not have been possible without each and everyone of you. Sending love and Merry Christmas wishes to you all. 💙
