At the same time some club members were at Lancaster County Food Hub another group volunteered with Power Packs Project, an organization working to end weekend hunger for students.

This group of 21 Rotarians and one guest jumped right in, bagging 700 stalks of celery and 600 onions for this weekend’s meals. Power Packs provides families with a weekly recipe, ingredients to prepare the meal, pantry staples, and fresh local items like milk and produce. Today the program serves 1,900 families in 18 school districts across Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.

Rotary Club of Lancaster helped start Power Packs with a $5,000 grant, and the impact continues to grow. Last year alone, the organization provided 662,000 meals with just seven staff members β€” a powerful reminder that volunteers truly are the engine behind this work.

Yesterday, club members spent several hours serving our community, in lieu of our typical weekly meeting. Two groups of Rotarians volunteered simultaneously at different local organizations. Thank you to Community Service Committee Co-Chair Lauren Miller for organizing these opportunities!

At Lancaster County Food Hub, 15 Rotarians helped sort food donations, bagged items for distribution, labeled envelopes, and organized clothing. The Food Hub supports low-income individuals, working families, and people experiencing homelessness across Lancaster County, providing essential food, clothing, and shelter services to tens of thousands each year.

We also learned that the red canopy at the entrance β€” now a recognizable symbol of community service in the City of Lancaster β€” was a gift from the Rotary Club of Lancaster.

πŸ‘‰ Want to make a difference in our community? Guests are always welcome to visit our weekly meetings, held Wednesdays at noon at the Lancaster Farm & Home Center.

For last week's meeting, we visited the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, a place our Club helped bring to life more than 90 years ago. In the 1920s, as polio impacted children across Pennsylvania, Rotary Club of Lancaster funded a bracing clinic led by nurse Edna Schreiber. That early investment grew into what is now the Schreiber Center, serving thousands of children each year with therapy, education, and recreational programs.

This visit was more than a tour. It was a reminder of our legacy. From funding a bracing clinic in the 1920s to helping launch what would become the Schreiber Center, Rotary has been woven into this story from the beginning.

Mark you calendars for May 16th! The only one of its kind in Lancaster County, our 9th Annual Wheels and Wings Festival & 5K is a destination for the whole family. The event includes a fly-in, 5K race, music, bounce houses, food trucks and a car, truck & motorcycle show as the centerpiece. Best of all, it supports the Summer Youth Experience, keeping local students actively engaged while learning leadership skills.

Earlier this week, Rotary Club of Lancaster celebrated Swan 4 Kids (Scaling Walls A Note at a Time) participants at a special Capping Ceremony and check presentation at Burrowes Elementary School. The SWAN program uses music education and mentoring to support children who have an incarcerated parent. For the past two years, SWAN participants have joined Rotary at Lancaster Central Market, singing carols while club members rang bells for The Salvation Army, Lancaster Corps red kettle campaign.

When we realized some students were performing in the cold without proper winter gear, our club stepped in. This began by coordinating with the Salvation Army to make sure all of the students had coats. This year Rotary members donated funds for hats and a special contribution to the SWAN program. Thank you to everyone who made this moment possible β€” especially the students who continue to inspire us with their courage and voices.
